Babita overcomes her disability and rewrites her future

Babita used to study at a government school in a village called Vasdev. SSISM met her during a career counseling session of 12th standard students.

Babita is Polio affected since childhood. She has a big family. Her father is a laborer, and her mother is a housewife. She has 5 siblings; two elder brothers who work as masons, one younger sister Mamta, who is a graduate but unemployed, and one brother who is a truck driver. Babita and her younger sister Mamta are the only two graduates amongst her siblings. Mamta was not allowed to work due to familial pressures.

During counseling, she told the organization that she wants to do something in life. She wants to help her family. Her poor financial condition and being differently abled makes it impossible for her to get a higher education.

SSISM impressed with her determination gave her admission to the college. They assured her that her education and transportation would be taken care of. She joined SSISM after her 12th and gained admission in BA. She successfully completed her graduation with the support of the college.

After graduation, Babita began working as a teacher in a school near her village. She, however, wanted to do something different and approached her college mentors.

She had high potential and wanted to do something different in life. She was asked to come to Bangalore with SSISM for a training program. This program could prepare her for a chance to appear for interviews.

Going to Bangalore or any other city for a girl in rural India is not at all encouraged. On top of it, if she was differently abled. Despite the resistance from her family, she was firm about her decision of going to Bangalore.

Her hard work and sincerity paid off well. With all her efforts, she got placed within 50 days of training.

Babita is now working in an award-winning company Vindhya Info in Bangalore.

Occasional support and a few words of encouragement were all that was required for this miracle to happen.

Babita can now speak English, and the confidence visible in her is amazing. She is not only self-reliant but supporting her family as well. She is also preparing for her Master's Program.

Program Description

Sant Singaji Institute of Science & Management provides education to needy students who live in remote villages of MP.

Donations to this program will contribute to a fund that will cover the college tuition for the students from remote villages.

Sant Singaji Institute of Science & Management is in Sandalpur - about 4-5 hours away from Bhopal and Indore. The college offers many undergraduate and postgraduate courses. They also have a well-equipped library and their own software development wing.

The students belong to underprivileged backgrounds and live in remote villages. These villages are sometimes very far from the institute and beyond forest areas. They walk through forests just to reach the bus stop and then have to travel over 50 km by bus to reach college.

At Sant Singaji, a student pursuing any of the science or management courses receives aid with college tuition, basic computer training, spoken English, and exam registration. The college also provides free transport to the students.

Sant Singaji Educational Society (SSES) was established in 2010, intending to creating social and economic transformation in one of the most backward areas of the country around the Gondwana area of Madhya Pradesh.

Sant Singaji Institute of Science & Management is a co-educational institute, with around 1000 students from 150 + villages on its rolls catering to the youth of three rural districts of Madhya Pradesh presently - Dewas, Sehore, and Harda.

The Institute was started by Mr. Pranjal Dubey, who left his high profile job in SAP Labs, Bangalore to set up this institute in his native village. Pranjal Dubey comes from a family that traditionally provided the head priest for the Sant Singaji Temple at Sandalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

At his father's passing in 1996 it was his duty to take over this role, and although he returned to Sandalpur annually for the temple festival, he continued his career as a software engineer in Bengaluru with the blessing of the village elders.

Every time he visited he encountered desperation from parents and youth who struggled to rise above poverty, despite the education and qualifications accessible to them. On investigation, he found the education available to local youth to be substandard. It became clear that he had a mission to change this and the chain of poverty that was left behind.

In only 7 years, the organization has achieved stellar results . 15 students, 14 of them being girls have obtained University ranks, putting Sandalpur on the education map of Madhya Pradesh.

Many of their graduates are working in companies in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Pune, etc in companies such as Cognizant, Wipro, CapGemini, SAP Labs, Infosys, etc.

For the Academic year 2022-23, we conducted SNS/SVS exam. Overall 850 students appeared for the exam. Out of this, 45 students got selected for the academic year 2022-23.

Muskan Khan: Class: B.com. 1st year Muskan lives with her father, mother, and 5 siblings. Her father is a labour, his monthly income is approximately 9000 Rs/month. Her one elder sister has completed her graduation from SSISM and one sister is pursuing B.A. 1st year. Her 2 younger brother is studying in 6th and 8th standard and 1 younger sister is studying in 8th standard. She belongs to Nemawar village, which is 10 km for SSISM. With this small income, it is very difficult for his father to survive with 8 members. Sant Singaji educational society went to muskan and support her in their education. This would also support her in achieving their family�s dreams and mitigating the educational problems. This support also helps her family because her father gets confident to send her daughter to higher education without any challenges. Last month Muskan has done her 1st year university exam successfully, and now she is getting ready for 2nd year beginning.

Sant Singaji Educational Society is located near the village of Sandalpur, Gondwana area of Madhya Pradesh which is 120 km. away from Indore city and 125 km. away from Bhopal city with 755 students at present coming from around 200 villages. This educational institute caters to the college-going youth of three rural districts of Madhya Pradesh, which are Dewas, Harda, and Sehore. We are engaged in skill development initiatives for rural and tribal students.We provide rigorous training to all the students for their future journey. This helps college youth to grow as per their future goal. They become role models for other students and people by way of their achievements. The achievements of students impacted approx. 750 students directly and 4000 people indirectly. The new batch of 1st year joined in the month of August 2022. In the initial three months of time our focus is more on the working on the basic concepts and provide training to the students about removing stage fear.

Kavita belongs to Nanasa village (city of Kannod). It is 20 km away from this institute. Her father is working as a wage worker, his monthly income is around Rs.10000. He will not able to provide higher education to every child. Kavita got married on 18 April 2022 under the pressure of her family. Her husband works in a cloth shop and earns Rs. 8000 per month. This little amount of her family cannot take care of high education fees of her. Since she lives so far away, commuting to the institute is also very difficult. But from the free education and bus transport facility of Sant Singhaji, her dreams can come true. She even She wants to pursue M.Sc. in Chemistry and wants a government job.

Our organization is working on changing the lives of rural youth by providing them education and guidance that they need in achieving their dreams. Recently, our students got placed in reputed companies like wipro, cognizant, Capgemini. Our institution covers dewas, harda, and sehore district of madya Pradesh. This year, our 20 students got placed in companies. Students are helped by providing them proper information and guidance that they need to stay focused towards their goal. As our institution conducts two programs for the students which is management excellence program and biotechnology excellence program. Where students are helped in developing their skills and guided in specific aspects which they need to work on.

Challenges faced and next steps

Yes, we faced challenge in carrying out operation in online classes that were conducted in pandemic as there were many students who were not having android mobile phones. Because of covid, students were not interested in coming back to offline classes and to give offline examinations. Somehow, we worked on it by tightening college rules. Our objective is to make students committed towards studies and for that we are engaging student in different activities to stay in touch with their studies and institution.

Kavita Kushwaha one of our student of scholarship who comes from a very poor family but is determined enough to develop her skills and establish her career achieved the second position in a state-level essay writing competition. It was a very proud moment for our college and her parents as she represented our college on state level.

Activities and work undertaken in the last 5-6 months

Here is a summary of our milestones which we created in the last six months from January to June.The first milestone we have achieved was by January end we started offline classes for students. In the guidance of Covid-19 protocol, we make sure that students should wear masks and use sanitiser. The classes are held in social distancing. In February we organized an event which is called SPL(singaji premiere league) where students and faculty participate in sports and cultural events. Due to the Covid second wave, we paused our offline classes and continue them as online classes. As every student was not having a phones and laptop, we manage to give them tablets and make every student a specific email id to join the classes on google meet, also try to get students together to attend classes combinedly. Secondly, in the period of distress by the grace of God – Singaji educational society took a lot of relief activities and its projects were very active in relief activities. Supplying food packets and basic grains (pulses, rice) to the needy, face masks, sanitisers etc were done through Singaji educational society. The society also distributed oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, oxygen concentrators and several other important medical equipment to the needy personals. 3700 food packets distributed in 50+ villages, 100 Oximeters and thermometers, face shield, mask, sanitisers distributed to volunteers, Asha workers and local village clinics,40 Oxygen Concentrators Distributed to clinics and individuals, given 100+ injections to 50+ patients,10 Oxygen Cylinder Services to 85 Critical patients The most considered part of this relief operation was to spread awareness about this invisible foe so that people could save themselves from the deadly virus. Also, we address public systems and mobile loudspeakers are being used in the main areas and localities to spread awareness among people. Vehicles equipped with loudspeakers and informative hoardings moves around the local villages with the Covid safety messages playing in the forms of musical jingles so that it could be heard and understood by the listeners. Vaccine Awareness Campaign 3 Districts, 10 Tehsil, 250+ villages covered 100 Km’s daily for 40 days. The vehicle covered around 350 kilometres of distance spreading awareness widely. The area which we cover of under three districts Dewas, Harda and Sehore.Thirdly, Keeping Mental health issues following the Covid-19 pandemic stem from 'normal' people being exposed to 'extraordinary situations'. The presentations are myriad and include emotional difficulties like anxiety, depression, and biological effects like sleep, appetite disturbances as well as severe mental illness and substance misuse. the duration is so suffocating for everyone we arranged a program for our students and faculty. The program was Association with Equitable HealthCare Access Consortium On “Emotional Well-Being with EaR” (How to Develop Emotional Intelligence?). This program was conducted by Mrs Pragati Sureka (ABPS licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Kolkata). The program was conducted in ten sessions over a month from 04th May 2021 to 03rd June 2021, on every Tuesday and Thursday of the week. Approx. 170 students registered for this program. The course, Emotional Well-Being with EaR is designed to help participants use Emotional Intelligence, practically, with a focus on experiential learning of tools for daily mental health care. Identification and harnessing of easily available resources. Basis the positive response received from the participants we have decided to introduce the Emotional Intelligence program at the college level so that all the students can benefit from the same. Students who have already participated in the current program will be nominated as student coordinators, and they will interact with each student in their assigned group periodically to assess and identify those in need of psychological counselling. The student coordinators will be supervised and guided by a group of teachers. Psychological counselling will be provided to such identified students by the faculty. Ms Pragati Sureka and her team will reach out to such students through personal sessions or group therapy as necessitated by her.Fourthly, in June, we initiated a program “break the silence”. This program is associated with the Equitable HealthCare Access Consortium where awareness of Menstrual Health and Hygiene - Sustainable Mensuration. Towards this EHAC partnering with The RotaryAction Group on Menstrual Health and Hygiene to conduct sessions in schools and colleges for all the womenfolk. The idea is that most of these students are from poor backgrounds and if we can help convert them to using menstrual cups and other biodegradable and cheaper ways of handling their menstrual cycle the chances of adoption will be more. We had student coordinators in the supervision of female faculty to aware girls student about this program as well as their area. More than 50 girls’ students are focusing on their health after this program awareness and we are trying to reach all the girls of our college.

Challenges faced and next steps

The major problem which we had that, in the rural area peoples are not serious about the pandemic. Due to that our Covid-19 relief activities added one more goal of an awareness campaign. Because of the pandemic, many people left their jobs, for that we survey and have a list of people who cannot have one-time food also. The next challenge which we faced was getting classes offline and online both. The challenge offline was that students should follow the social distancing but our students got the seriousness of this disease and get all the work under the government guidelines, in online classes which faced that not every student have a phone or any gadget. But the task for us was to get every student on board with online classes. So, we make some solutions like to those who don’t afford digital gadgets we gave them tablets, another was those students who are living near to some student who has gadgets to have combine classes with them as making groups. One more problem which we faced that in our college many students are from the same family so the problem was they have different courses but the class timing for all was same, so we gave them class recording so that they can study anytime. The plan for our next six months is in the new session we have to arrange offline classes if the government allow us to take perhaps, we will continue our session in online mode. With both programs, we will encourage mental health and menstrual hygiene in our college students. As a new session started we initiate one more program named “Bio Excellence Group” which will encourage biology students to have more skills have scope in their field as we already have ITEG and MEG for technology and management students.

Model Higher Secondary School से पास की इसके बाद में B.Tech करना चाहता था मगर family की financial condition ठीक न होने के कारण में B.Tech करने बाहर नही जा सका | मेरा सिंगाजी कॉलेज में SVS scholarship में selection हो चूका था जिसमे 3 साल में फ्री ऑफ़ कॉस्ट में अपनी education complete कर सकता' था फिर मेने सिंगाजी कॉलेज में BCA branch में एडमिशन लिया और pranjal sir के साथ discussion हुआ sir ने पूछा computer चलाते आता , मेने कहा नहीं फिर sir ने कहा summer weekend में क्या कर रहे हो college आओ सीखो फिर मेने कॉलेज में admission लेने के बाद ही college आना शुरू कर दिया daily सुबह 9 बजे से शाम के 5 बजे तक college में computer related technology (C,C++,java, Web Development) सीखते थे मेरे पास personal computer / laptop नहीं था तो ज्यादा से ज्यादा टाइम college में रहकर वह कंप्यूटर पर practice करते थे और 1 year की scholarship में laptop लिया ,1 year continue सिखने के बाद second year में मेरा Baelworks company में backend developer के लिए placement हो गया |( the photo of a boy which is attached is Amit Sahu)2. my name is Shubham Sen I live in village dudwas I have passed 10th class from government high school kanjipura with 82.6%. and I have passed my 12th class from the government model higher secondary school khategaon with 87%. There is a barbershop of my father in the village. When I was in 12th class, Sir from Singaji College came to our school and said that the students who are unable to pay the college fees for themselves, can give an exam of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship in college. I gave that exam. And after a few days, a call came from the college that you have passed the exam. I went to college then he told me that you can do your studies here without paying fees. I had thought that I have to study at Singaji College itself. but after passing the 12th class, I was not able to decide what to do now, which subject to take. Then when I went to the college, I talked to my teacher and told him that I want to go to the IT field, which subject should I take? After talking to the teacher, I decided to take the BCA subject. After taking the BCA subject, I used to come to ITEG class every day, I used to come to college every day, I used to learn what was taught in IT Class. finally got my job in 'Cloudiate information technology' in the second year of my BCA. now I am studying at BCA, I am also working in Cloudiate information technology as well.

COVID Relief Work Updates and Alumni Selections

In the Pandemic time marginal and landless farmers, daily wage laborers, homeless living on the streets are having huge trouble getting even two times a meal per day. In order to make things accessible to the community, SSISM took an initiative to distribute 10,000 Sanitation and Dry Ration Kits to 400 villages in a radius of 50 km from Village Sandalpur. Different teams were formed for a variety of work. The procurement team was responsible to procure and pack the ration and health kits. Other team including drivers, coordinators, and volunteers distributed the kit in different villages. All this work was being documented (Beneficiaries’, details, id proof, villages, etc) by admin and account department jointly. Another team was monitoring all this work and was available for any intervention if needed. With the help of GiveIndia and our donors we were able to provide kits to 4389 families.
For a long time college did not start full fledgedly but some of the staff members were coming, with the help of those SSISM started planting saplings in the premises. It was an initiative to promote green environment and to establish a connect between staff and environment. Members involved liked the initiative and are still connected as they now see those plants growing in front of them.
For last 3-4 years SSISM students are getting selected in Ram Krishna Mission. These students work as resource persons in different states. 10 of SSISM alumni are already working in Ram Krishna Mission at different places from Guwahati to Rajasthan, from Chandigarh to Himachal Pradesh. This year also two of our students Vishal Prajapati and Abhay got selected, they will soon join the organization.

We at SSISM primarily work on two aspects for students 1)Igniting Dreams 2) Giving the confidence to achieve dreams. As part of broadening the vision and giving them dreams we visited the
Indian School of Business, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), IKEA Store, Arcesium (DE Shaw) and Fernandez Hospital - Hyderabad

Through ehaconsortium.org We met people who are Inspiring and made a positive impact on society with their strong values and passion. Shri DVR Seshadri, Clinical Professor ISB, Dr. G Chandrashekar, Vice Chairman LVPEI, Dr. Evita, MD Fernandez Hospitals, & Mr. Ranvijay, Country head Arcesium spent good time with students explaining them the importance of values and following passion with persistence. It was a wonderful learning experience for all the students.
A group of 47 B.Sc Seed Technology students recently visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bankhedi to get exposure to new farming techniques and different varieties of seed.
Dr. Pankaj Sharma gave a demonstration to the students of different types of equipment, he explained about Organic Farming, Vermi Compost, Gobar Gas.
It was a great experience for students, students along with their faculty Mr. K. K Partidar and Mr. Radhe Shyam Nagar took an oath of "Swachata".

In the last 2 quarters, many events and trips took place. An annual sport and cultural event takes place every year 'Singaji Premere League'. An educational trip of 15-20 students students went to Bangalore. We conduct a program, UDHYAM for the benefit and overall development of students. This program is designed to give exposure of various entrepreneurship skills to students by giving them activity based knowledge. A seed money is also given to students to have field experience of small entrepreneur set up. Annual exams of students had started but due to lockdown rest of the exams are on hold till we hear from Vikram University, Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. We also undertake 2 Scholarship Exams for SNS and SVS - Singaji Nivedita Scholarship and Singaji Vivekananda Scholarship for the deserving students.
Our two very bright students Ashwini Rajoriya and Smita Pandey were selected for a two month internship program in Luminious, Gurugram. After the completion of the internship Ashwini Rajoriya got placed there.

Program Update

We are providing scholarships for 350 students. We have planned to provide scholarship for 300 new students in the academic year 2019-20. So far we have generated funds for 68/600. We are putting constant efforts to raise more scholarship funds. We have 1000 students enrolled among them these 350 students are the one who come from poor financial background. The selection process is rigorous and the process is still going on. Written tests, Personal Interviews and Home Visits for verification has been done. The awaited results of 12th class will clarify the seats of students.

Story from the field

Harshita was having a very well-settled family a year ago. All of a sudden, her father suffered heavy financial loss and due to loans taken from bank and private lenders, he is declared as Bankrupt. All the available savings and property taken by the bank and about to auctioned by the bank her whole family is stressed. She is in final year of BBA and is a very bright student.
It had become very difficult for her parents to pay the fees for final year of graduation. The scholarship is helping her to complete her graduation. She needed a job as soon as possible. She has recently got placed in a finance company that is Gromor Finance situated in Indore.
