With a little help Roshan now enjoys learning
Roshan is 6 years old child. He lives in a slum in Sagarpur. Both his parents work as daily wage laborers. They work long hours and struggle to make ends meet.
Roshan goes to a nearby Govt. school. His parents though illiterate want the best for Roshan and want him to be educated and have a good future. However, their work does not give them enough time with Roshan. They are also not literate so cannot help him with his school requirements.
On the advice of well-wishers, they enrolled him in the Parivartan Shiksha Kendra, Sagarpur.
Sarthak Prayas made sure that his needs were taken care of. Roshan made overall good changes since he started attending the center.

Education for Wings

Activities and work undertaken in the last 5-6 months
With your support, we have been able to aid the educational needs of 300 children, residing in the urban slums of Delhi NCR. The funds were well utilised for making futures brighter, by catering to their educational and recreational needs. To cater for their educational needs, online classes are being conducted from Monday to Saturday. The classes are a mix of topics, ranging from mathematics, science, social sciences. Along with the above subject: a. Virtual celebration of birthdays and other festivals is done every once a month. b. Virtual Yoga day celebration- a special session on laughter yoga for the children was done for their mental well being.c. Art and craft, and dance sessions were held to nurture and withhold their creative minds d. A special session on Artificial intelligence was conducted to make them aware of what is artificial intelligence and that it can be a career for one of these children.e. Regular Moral value sessions are held with children to inculcate good moral values in them.f. Periodic sessions on Child safety are conducted to ensure their safety and increase awareness for the cause. For recreation and motivation towards education, they are gifted various hampers, consisting of stationary articles, food items, clothes, and other accessories like bags, hairpins, and so on.
Challenges faced and next steps
The major hurdle was to shift the whole offline medium of classes to online. Teaching and training every child, and keeping up their motivation to study online. Reaching out to all the centres too physically during these difficult times of a global pandemic to connect with and train teachers and students. For the successful conduction of classes, every day for 1 month the teachers and field executives were out in the communities risking their health to ensure training on online education and on-ground implementation of the program.Furthermore, the lack of availability of smartphones for the children, and laptops for the teachers have been a major hurdle in holding online sessions/classes.
Stories from the ground
One of the success stories of this program is of a young girl, Vanshika. She studies at a government school and aspires to be a very good teacher in the future. When asked as to why only a teacher, she replied, saying so that I can educate many more children and help them to have a better career. Vanshika initially lacked interest and confidence towards education as she was facing problems in learning and could not cope in class due to the same. also, she was troubled in her mind with the whole gender bias comments and behaviours of the society. Through the program, we not only helped her to bridge her learning gap, but also counselling with her family on the importance of education, and gender equality helped her in increasing her motivation towards education. Today, she is highly motivated to study, today she feels that studies are so important that she motivates other students to join the battle to eradicate illiteracy and motivate students to study, she especially is motivated to teach the girl child to get an education, so that she can not only secure her future, but also the future of her family.

Provide joy of celebrating various events to children living in slums
Children are amazing explorers. They leave no chance to explore. Always energetic and keen to gain knowledge. They are enthusiastic to travel places and learn from others.
For the same zeal and keenness, Sarthak Prayas took its children on various places and events. Which they enjoyed a lot.
We took them on DMRC Museum, where they learned about various technologies and saw metro function of the city. Kids were surprised to know, how the metro works in the city and travels all day. Later, they had their lunch which they shared with each other.
We also had organised fitness program for the kids in which they were trained to do some yoga exercises and much more.
These kids went to the Croma Annual Event and had pretty good fun with learning and exploring the event.
Holi is a favourite and very fun festival, then how could that be left behind? Well, we held a holi celebration too and enjoyed a lot. Which was concluded with sweets and wishes?
