report image

Activities and work undertaken in the last 5-6 months

During the last 6 months, over 400 students were supported under the Nurture merit high school program.

Our objective is to support bright students coming from economically challenged families for their higher education. The selected students are provided financial scholarship to cover school fees, transportation, and exam fees. Along with this additional amount for coaching is given.

Vidya Poshak has devised a unique process to identify deserving students. The selection is meticulous and detailed. Following are the activities involved.

Step1: Through our 200 strong volunteer network across 10 districts of Karnataka the meritorious economically challenged students get to know about Nurture Merit Program.

Step 2: The students make the initial application through a simple online system.

Step 3: Initial shortlisting is based on their Class10 Marks and a personal one on one interview to understand their aspirations and interests.

Step 4: To assess the poverty, physical visit to student’s dwelling unit is performed to ensure only deserving applicants receive the benefit.

Step 5: On approval, students are given financial assistance along with an induction program, which will cover information about their donors and their responsibilities of being a VP Scholar.

Depending on their performance, subject to a minimum academic benchmark students are extended continued support till they complete graduation.

We organized “Manage Exam stress” & “Career guidance session” for 180 students of Class-12 in the month of November.

Challenges faced and next steps

The students have faced a lot of challenges in accessing digital content and attending online sessions. We have provided tabs to 80 students and another 50 students were provided with smartphones for attending online classes.

We are still looking for support for tabs for the students who have challenges in attending the digital classes.
