Help a differently abled person walk by sponsoring a mobility aid

Being able to move inspired Galamma to change her life.

Galamma worked in the coir industry. An unfortunate accident caused her to lose a leg and she could not work anymore.

Her life got even harder when her father died soon after. She was lost and in pain but refused to give up. She decided that she would do everything she could to help herself and her family.

She pushed herself to walk with the help of crutches. The government hospital that Galamma visited referred her to Uma Educational Trust and Society (UETS). The organization helped her by providing for her treatment. They also gave her an artificial leg.

Galamma began to feel more confident and decided to go back and finish her education. She not only finished her schooling but also graduated from college. She then enrolled for D.Ed in Special Education (Mental Retardation) at UETS.

Today, she is proud to be a Special Educator for intellectually challenged children. She is in awe of her own journey and believes that UETS and its donors made her dreams come true.

Women like Galamma have the courage and determination to win at life. You could help them by donating for mobility aids that keep them going. You can give with confidence because every program on our platform is GIVEASSURED.

This organization is maintaining a Workshop (Immovable & Mobile) for fabrication/fitment of Assistive Devices. Through this workshop (Movable & Immovable) the organization is fabricating and fitment of assistive devices and providing to the needy Persons with Disabilities free of cost with the support of donors like you. We are conducting Screening & Assessment Camps for the identification of beneficiaries for Assistive Devices in all Revenue Mandals, East & West Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh. We are providing repair and maintenance of assistive devices that received them earlier. During this period we have not conducted any Screening & Assessment Camps at Field Level due to the intensity of Covid-19. We have provided Centre based services for Repairs and distribution of new Assistive Devices to PwDs identified in earlier camps. 160 Artificial Limbs and Calipers were repaired and distributed 17 Artificial Limbs and 10 Calipers from Jan to June 2021. These Assistive Devices are helpful for their mobility in their day to day life.

Challenges faced and next steps

  1. Field level camps could not be organized due to Covid-19 pandemic crises especially from March to June 2021.2. Most of the PwDs could not reach our Centre for any repairs or new assistive devices due to imposition of lockdown and lack of proper public transport facility. 3. During this period this organization has provided Dry Ration Kits to poor and needy PwDs those who have lost their livelihood with the support of various donors mobilized by this organization. Since we have taken special permission for vehicle passes from the district administration for distribution of Dry Ration Kits, we have utilized the same for identifying the new PwDs for Assistive Devices and provided repairs for already using assistive devices. 4. As of now Government authorities has been permitted to conduct the camps for Screening and Identification of PwDs for the requirement of Assistive Devices. Accordingly, we have planned to conduct 3 camps per month Mandal wise. Providing an Artificial Limb / Calipers to needy Persons with Disabilities

report image

The Disabilities may occur at any age but become more common as people get older. Most of the people with disabilities have the inherent potential to lead their life independently, but they are living dependent on their families due to lack of functional Mobility, Functional Vision, Functional Hearing etc, which is required to execute the activities. The provision of suitable aids & appliances may helpful to restore people with disabling disorders to their optimum level of function and wellbeing and can improve the quality of life (which includes those things that make life worth living or which give fulfilment). The suitable aids & appliances can also help to improve functions — by allowing people to perform ‘basic’ activities, such as becoming mobile or self-caring or doing everyday tasks.
