Vittal is from a remote village near Dharwad. His family is poor and could not even afford many of their most basic needs.
Vittal is a bright student with a passion for learning. His environment did not stop him from studying hard. He wanted to achieve great things in life and graduated Class 12 with a distinction.
Unfortunately, Vittal’s family could not afford to pay for his further studies. When Vidya Poshak found out about him, they agreed to support his studies.The organization paid for his education as well as all his study material. This took a huge burden off him and his family. He was able to complete his graduate studies and clear the CPT and IPCC exams. Vittal now works at Wipro in Bangalore.

What the beneficiary gets
Nurture Merit- Financial assistance is a well-designed, structured and focused program to support bright students coming from economically challenged families. Vidya Poshak empowers underprivileged bright students through financial assistance by supporting their college fees, exam fee etc. Courses supported are Engineering, Medical, Nursing, BSc Agri, BCA & BBA.
The identification of students is done by physical visits to the student's home by Vidya Poshak volunteers or staff, to assess the need to ensure only deserving applicants received the assistance. The identification of deserving student is based on academic merit and poverty. After verifying their eligibility, and verifying the fees etc. the scholarship cheque is handed over. The same students are helped till they finish their graduation, provided they pass the final exam every year with minimum 60 percent marks.
The program has a well-structured monitoring and reporting procedure in place. The progress of each student is closely monitored throughout the support period. The contact details of students along with their profiles are provided to donors.

Nurture Merit - Graduation Support
Vidya Poshak strongly believes in ‘Education as the solution for Ending Poverty’. When we invest in young, economically challenged meritorious youth for a few years, we can break the poverty cycle of a family forever. Until now we have provided support for 498 students with a financial support of 34.84 Lakhs and another 100 students would be supported before end of december. Some key highlights of our programs are
Based on the aspirations of students identified by the Guardians we have created 4 Collaborative Study circles (WhatsApp) for UPSC Aspirants, IBPS , CA & CS Aspirants. There are 250+ students enrolled in these 4 groups together and 25 experts who have cleared Civil Services, KAS, IBPS, CA & CS have joined the group for Interaction and Doubt solving.
To identify the talents of the our students we have organized monthly competitions from April onwards and also asked them to work on different students projects proposals on solving local community issues. http://tiny.cc/VPScholars
We have initiated a new pilot Buddy Mentoring to support students one on One for coaching and mentoring throughout the Academic year. The idea is to have a semi-structured guidance whereby the Mentors shares their knowledge, skills and experience to assist the student to progress in their own lives and careers. The Mentor helps the Mentee become what she aspires to be and realise their potential. Overall 210 students have been assigned to young professional one on one for Mentoring.
Coaching circles were initiated with support from Corporate volunteers. The coaching program will be for a duration of 4-6 Weeks where the students will get a personal coaching from experts on a particular Skillset. Corporate volunteers take up one on one students and provide them focused coaching on specific skills.
We have also taken our own College going students as interns and about to start digitizing Video lessons of the School subjects of Class 6-10 Maths, Science, English & Social science & PUC all streams through Student internship program. During the year 309 Students are about to complete their degree courses and we have conducted various workshops and bridge training programs for the students making them career ready. Small highlights of the same
301 students were trained through 6 Residential Bridge camps
20 workshops and career counseling sessions were conducted with the help of experts on various Soft skills & Employment/Career related topics through which more than 800 students reaped benefits.
Computer and Internet: The students were also provided computer and internet facility. The student could practice and operate various Programing languages and also able to use for researching for academic requirements. More than 2000 students made use of the Computer facility which were available in all 6 Knowledge resource centers.

Financial support to deserving meritorious students from economically deprived segment of the society to complete their graduation is one of the main flagship program of Vidya Poshak. During the academic year more than 650 students were supported for their college education. The short listing was done after meeting the students and family members in their home personally to understand their economic status.
12 students cleared their IPCC, CS Foundation & CPT exams without opting coaching
240 students are in the final year degree and will be completing their graduation in the month of June 2019
Bailbasappa Kabberalli is working as yoga trainer in Vietnam.
Vinayak Pyati Completed Diploma course and Joined Sankalpa semiconductor Hubli as Design engineer Shweta Nagrand BCA graduate joined Wipro Company as trainee Nanda Havaladar Completed BA and selected for CRPF Police, Bangalore Swapna Chandrashekhar Completed her Diploma course and joined as Typist-Copyist in the District and Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District.

Anupama Hegde is a bright young student from a small village in Siddapur taluk, Uttarakannada district with a dream to become a successful company Secretary.
Her father is an agriculturist owning a small areca plantation and her mother is a home maker. She has a younger brother and the family lives in a small house.
With her hard work and dedication Anupama scored 90.72% in class 10 exam. At this time she was refered to Vidya Poshak by one of our volunteer. After the background verification and visit to her house she was financially supported by Vidya Poshak for Class-11 and Class-12 education. She scored 85% in class 11 exams and 89.5% marks in class-12 and currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree in commerce.
Vidya Poshak is continuing to support her graduate education. She was also encouraged to prepare for the CS Foundation course. With her dedication and commitment she was able to clear CS foundation course scoring 230 marks in her 1st attempt itself. She also attended Vidya Poshak skill training programs and participated in the social project as part of the giving back to the society.
She has scored 84% in her B.Com 1st year exam and pursuing her dream to become a Company Secretary.

Book donation drive was conducted in all the Library branches by the student volunteers in the month of July and August 2018

In 2009 Balappa applied for financial assistance for his Higher education. He had lost his father and mother was the only bred earner in the family of 6 Members. At the time the family income was Rs 25000 Per annum. Vidya Poshak supported Balappa’s Pu and Degree education. After completing his bachelor’s degrees in Arts and Education ( BA& B.Ed) he appeared for Jailers recruitment test in 2017-18 and stood first in Karnataka state .Currently He is a Jailer in the prisons department earning Rs 4.00Lacs Per annum. Vidya Poshak is proud of his achievement by which his family which was below the poverty line and know has come out of its financial difficulties.

Activities and trainings at the Vidya Poshak Knowledge Resource Centres
In the last 6 months
477 students were trained in Residential Bridge camps 200 students were trained under the Skill Development program 550 students were trained under the value education program.
More than 10,000 books were issued to the students at Vidya Poshak Knowledge Resource Centres. A total of 8500 students could access the library services through 6 library centers.
During 2017-18, 1410 economically challenged meritorious students were financially assisted to the tune of INR 92 Lakh to pursue their studies in Professional and Nonprofessional courses, with 65% of them being girls.
