Your support could mean a better life for the poor aspiring kids like Kajal

Kajal was born in Gujarat to an alcoholic father who works as a labourer. Her mother supports the family of eight by working as a housemaid in Udhna, Surat. The family is in poor condition both financially and otherwise with Kajal's father being a regular abuser to her mother. Despite unsupportive environment at home, Kajal aspires to do well in her life. She aims to contribute to the upliftment of the poor by pursuing social service.

One day Kajal got to know about Visamo Kids Foundation and joined their residential centre on 31.07.2002. With its support, she completed her 12th in 2015 and did her graduation in Psychology. To chase her dream of becoming a social worker, she continued her studies at premiere institute of Social Work Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. She is currently doing her MA, specializing in Women Centered Studies. Recently, she was also chosen as one of the team members who went to Kerala to support the flood affected victims.

Program Description

Visamo Kids Foundation runs a residential centre where they look after poor boys and girls from different districts of Gujarat. They provide a warm and safe environment for these children to live, study and play. Children are also provided with nutritious food and are fully supported to complete their education. The support includes transportation to school, basics like stationery, books, uniforms and also after school coaching.

To identify the children who need support, VKF partners with NGOs operating at the grass roots level or in the interior of the state. These NGOs also promote VKF's philosophy and help verify the eligibility of the beneficiaries.

EMPOWERING LIVES BY STRENGTHENING ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION

#2

2021-03-23-visamosuccessstoryof2020-visamokidsfoundation.jpg

None of us could have foreseen the scenarios we have been facing during the post covid era. Visamo Kids, a campus that would wear the giggles and smiles of the kids staying in the ‘home’ are back to their families and are safe at their villages with their parents and the shelter home has been temporarily closed. We are connected with our team members and stakeholder groups through the technology and we are ensuring the kids attend regular online classes (to the extent possible).  And, there are challenges related to access to technology and other factors due to remoteness of the villages where kids of Visamo belong, and we are trying to support the families, by being in contact with them. Schools and the community around have supported the children by providing devices and internet data packs to students. Some schools have started remedial classes for Visamokids, who have missed out classes due to access issues. NGOs have started recruiting teachers (local youth who can extend hand holding support to help kids with their routine studies) at the places where the kids are staying. Though work environments have changed, our commitment to the cause remains unchanged. We are also utilizing this time to enhance skills and capacities of team members. Teachers, admin and boarding staff are attending webinars, online training and interactions. To keep up the positive mindset we are participating in the face book live sessions that include a series of talks, discussions and musical fiestas. Volunteer groups have started reaching out t students to provide one on one education support to the children.
