Every monthly donation helps educate more kids like Rashid
Rashid, the elder of the two siblings from a low-income family joined Muktangan in Jr. Kg as a weak student. His parents were illiterate. The teachers observed that he faced difficulty concentrating in the class and didn't participate in the class activities. He also refused to eat vegetables and fruits which deprived him of the nutrition.
The teachers started implementing informational processing theory to emphasize engagement opportunities to enhance his learning and interest. Teachers encouraged him to eat by demonstrating the importance of nutritional food through storiesA huge improvement can be seen in Rashid who is in Class V.
He now concentrates and participates in class and actively participates in the school activities. The teachers now can see a positive future for him.

About The Program
What the beneficiary gets
Muktangan runs 7 English-medium schools in Mumbai catering to over 2700 students. The students and teachers are from the same local marginalized communities that the schools they serve. The programs work both the school and classroom environment and curricular related practices. Such a 'Whole School' approach leads to the institutionalization and long-term sustainability of these innovative processes.
Muktangan offers a 3-year teacher education programme to prospective educators recruited form the underserved communities. These prospective teachers go through a 1-year preservice programme where they are taught and mentored by experienced faculty on child development & learning through an activity-based constructive pedagogy and child observation. After which the teachers spend a further two years at Muktangan attaining a practical teaching experience and attaining a subject specialization.
When you support this program, you help in developing the skills of a teacher to better serve a child from a low-income family.

Learning and Growing together
Learning and Growing together
The last quarter was a mix of academic plus extra-curricular activities. Children got to engage in the following activities during this quarter:
They learned the academic subjects through a unique pedagogy of active-constructivism where students got the opportunity to explore their own creativity and learn concepts by constructing their own understanding of the subject.
They participated in the Dance and Drama event called Expressions in the month of December where all of them got a chance to showcase their skills on a large platform
Under the curriculum of Physical Education, they participated in the Sports Day that happened in the 3rd week of December. Competitions in both indoor and outdoor games were arranged.
One of the unique points of Muktangan is the way children are taught. The children get a chance to depict their learnings on Project days. These happened during the 1st week of February. The Project day was attended by parents and donors.
26 of Muktangan students got selected for the National or the final round of Olympiad exams which are conducted for Maths, Science and English.
Under the concept of blended learning, we installed TVs and computers in our schools so the imparting of knowledge can be done audio-visually.
