Every monthly donation helps more girls like Mandara with scholarships
Mandara is a third year BE student at Vemana Institute of Technology. She hails from an underprivileged home, where her father is the breadwinner of the family of four. Mandara's father works as a painter and her mother, a homemaker.

About The Program
What the beneficiary gets
In an attempt to empower women through the tool of education, Mahila Dakshata Samiti provides scholarships to girl students in dire need of financial assistance to continue their education.
Newspaper advertisements invite applications from college students for scholarships, the only criteria being the girls need to have a proven academic record. The applications are then scrutinized by MDS field workers who visit the homes of all the applicants. The scholarships are awarded to the selected candidates at the start of the academic year.
The organization awards scholarship up to INR 10,000 per student for one academic year. MDS continues to support the candidate until she concludes her studies.

Our prime focus has been education of the girl child, as education is the key to empowerment.Keeping this in mind we have been providing scholarships to needy meritorious students from economically backward sections of society so as to enable them to pursue their dreams. As usual, this year too advertisements inviting applications for scholarships were put forth in English and kannada newspapers. The response was very good. There has been a steady increase in the number of students, who have recieved financial aid from the MDS, a big jump from 80 students in 2015-16 to 150 students in 2017-18. A point worthy of mention is that there has been a steady increase in the number of students pursuing professional courses applying for grants. The Scholarship committee goes through a lot of pain in selecting the most deserving candidates for the awarding of scholarships. Their scholastic abilities, financial status, family background such as orphans, children of single parent, health problems of parents due to which they are unable to contribute to the family exchequer, illiterate and semi-literate parents, students from rural areas and students who get admitted to Government colleges are some of the criteria taken into consideration while granting scholarships. This year too we have granted scholarships for about 140 students so far.
Story from the field
This is the success story of Ms. Aishwarya, who has completed her MBBS with our financial support and guidance. Her father had abondoned her and her mother, when she was a three months old child. Her mother is the sole earning member. She has single handedly brought Aishwarya up by working as a domestic help. All along she has been simple minded in her vision in providing Aishwarya with quality education, so that she does not have to endure hardships in life like her. Having successfully completed MBBS, today she is employed as an Assistant Doctor to a Sr. Doctor in ESIC Hospital. She and her mother are extreamly grateful to usfar the same.
