Gift a Rural Child a Future

Gift a Rural Child a Future

Creator: Isha Education | NGO:Isha Education

‘Quality education is the only ladder that we can provide these rural children to help them and their families climb out of the vicious cycle of poverty.’ – Sadhguru, Founder

Isha Vidhya is the rural education initiative of Isha Foundation, which provides high-quality school education to underprivileged rural children. 8 Isha Vidhya schools (7 in Tamil Nadu and 1 in Andhra Pradesh) are creating a bright future for 4,050 rural children – many of whom are first-generation school-goers. 58% of them are on full scholarships. Highly subsidized noon meals are also provided.

English-medium, computer-aided education is augmented by a holistic approach where academic excellence is combined with attention to sports, arts & crafts, environmental awareness, health and Yoga. A transformation is brought about in almost every aspect of a child’s life and in parental attitudes to education as well. Most students learn basic hygiene only in the school. Mid-day meals prepared using salt fortified with 11 essential micro-nutrients address malnutrition. For many children, this is their only good meal of the day.

Other objectives of the schools include actively promoting education of girls and increasing educational awareness in rural communities, while striving to preserve village identities and culture.

Noted individuals including Deepak Satwalekar, former MD of HDFC & HDFC Standard Life, Ad Guru Prahlad Kakkar, Ravi Venkatesan, Independent Director at Infosys and former Chairman of Microsoft India, serve on our Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee.

Some of our major sponsors include reputed organisations like Infosys Foundation, Apollo Hospitals Group, LIC of India, Tata Motors, SBI Life, Cognizant Foundation, HP and many others.

"As a part of Isha’s social outreach programs, Isha Vidhya rural schools have been started in villages (under the umbrella of Isha Education, established in 2005) to provide high quality school education to underprivileged rural children who cannot otherwise access or afford it. Isha Vidhya aims to provide high quality school education to rural children who cannot otherwise afford it. Isha Vidhya schools • take education beyond literacy and rudimentary skills • strive to make children fluent in English and adept in computer skills • adopt a nurturing approach to education, helping children realize their full potential • actively promote education of female children • increase educational awareness in rural communities • preserve village identities and culture. • equip rural youth with skills to rise above the ‘hopeless’ situation they often find themselves in, empowering them to pursue higher studies or gainful employment "
