Today (9th March) is my daughter Aarthi’s birthday!
It’s almost a decade since Aarthi left home to pursue her undergraduate studies in BITS Pilani, Goa Campus. She is completing her Ph.D. at National University of Singapore now and plans on continuing her journey of knowledge through a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in a university.
There have been many challenges in living apart from one’s only child. I’ve been saved from the empty-nest feeling thanks to my work with GiveIndia where I’ve had the privilege to interact closely with many non-profit organizations. And today on Aarthi’s birthday what better gift can I give her than to celebrate the work of an NGO with the same name: Aarti for Girls
As her mother, I am thankful to God to see Aarthi grow into a computer science research scholar, nurture an academic mindset and become an independent and loving person. I see the importance of computer science education among the young, learning minds of the country.
Aarti for Girls run a Mobile Computer Education project in rural Kadapa to teach basic computer skills to students of 8th to 10th Grade in the Zilla Parishad High Schools. These children belong to families of agriculture labourers. Two trainers travel with 10 laptops in a mobile van from school to school spending a week at every school training 25 students. The NGO also runs Aarti Home, Aarti School and income generating training program for women in Aarti village in Kadapa. I have set a target of supporting 10 schools.
“The Girl Child is a social asset”, said the people’s President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Please help me help Aarti for Girls create many such social assets for our nation and make my Aarthi’s birthday meaningful and rewarding.
Thank you
