Help flood survivors in Assam, Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka | 2019

When nature shows its wrath, no one is speared. Floods in India have become an annual phenomenon, displacing millions in the country every year. This year, around 130 people have lost their lives in Bihar and around 91 in Assam. As per the official data, the death toll in Kerala rose to 85 as on August 12th, while in Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra, 116 people have lost their lives so far. Other states are also fearing nature’s fury, with Andhra Pradesh on alert following rising water levels in Krishna River. Odisha and West Bengal too are experiencing heavy showers, besides heavy rains in Uttarakhand and Jammu, where 9 people have already lost their lives in landslides. Help flood survivors across India.

Extend a helping hand with Give’s NGO partners:

Goonj

Goonj is reaching out to the flood affected communities across India. Truckloads of comprehensive flood relief kits are dispatched daily from its centres across India. It has intensified its efforts to collect old and new material from the urban spaces. For the people in need, essential material like dry ration, toiletries, tarpaulins, sanitary napkins, utensils, umbrellas etc. are sent.

Reaching out to the people in the flood affected areas takes days and involves expenditure on transportation and logistics. Which is why, ‘with material, money matters!’ You contributions ensure that the required material reaches people who urgently need it. Support Goonj’s effort and donate now for the flood survivors!

Goonj is working in disasters since more than a decade now and knows how to utilise timely donation for people’s  need. With systemic approach from relief to rehabilitation efforts, it has worked extensively during Chamoli (1999) to Tsunami (in 2004), Kosi floods (in 2008), Uttarakhand , J&K, Hud Hud Cyclone in Odisha , floods in Chennai and Andhra to the annual floods in 9 states last year to the floods this year etc.

Habitat for Humanity India Trust

Maharashtra is one of the worst affected by the ongoing rains in the region. Nearly 2.5 lakh people have already been displaced, making the city cry for help. In Karnataka too, around 11 districts  are flooded by Krishna river. Continuous rains have made the rescue and relief operations difficult, adding to the misery of the flood survivors.

Habitat for Humanity India team is providing relief to the flood affected in Karnataka and Maharashtra. They are reaching out to the communities with ‘Emergency Shelter Kits’. The Kit includes shelter items like CGI sheets, nylon ropes, hand tools (like machete, hand saw, claw hammers, drills, etc.). The Kit is designed to help the communities to rebuild their homes by making necessary repairs of their distructed homes. They are also reaching out to them with ‘Humanitarian Aid Kits’, consisting of personal hygiene items (like soap, towels, toothbrush, sanitary pads, etc.) and household items (utensils, bed sheets, blankets bucket etc.). The Kit also provides cleaning material (bleaching powder, water purification or chlorine tablets etc.), making sure that the flood affected have access to items of daily use.

The need is big and time is of essence. Help the flood survivors of Maharashtra and Karnataka to rebuild their lives from scratch.
