Corporate collaboration aims at promoting Midday Meal Scheme in Indian schools

In what can be a boost to the Midday Meal Scheme – a campaign aimed at preventing malnutrition, curbing classroom hunger and increasing school enrolments and attendance – Groupon India has collaborated with GiveIndia and The Akshaya Patra Foundation to support scheme.

As part of this partnership, Groupon India will introduce a special offer for Rs.660 which will sponsor a yearlong supply of nutritious lunch for a school child through GiveIndia and the Akshaya Patra Foundation. GiveIndia is a donation platform that allows donors to support a cause of their choice from about 200 NGOs that have been scrutinised for transparency and credibility. The online platform has reviewed over 3,000 non-profit organisations from all over India to identify over 200 plus organisations and work for causes ranging from child welfare and education to disability, poverty, and women's empowerment.

Dhaval Udani, CEO, GiveIndia, said, “Today as India's middle class grows and becomes more ambitious, they want to make individual lifestyle choices. As disposable income grows, more and more people are getting conscious of their social responsibility as well. With the fast paced life today, they want to contribute to social causes but don’t find convenient, trusted platforms to make donations. We truly appreciate Groupon India for stepping forward and giving us a larger donation platform to make a difference to hundreds of innocent children across the country.”

Speaking about the support to the Midday Meal Scheme, Ankur Warikoo, CEO, Groupon India, said, “We believe in making a contribution to the society that we are a part of. To help GiveIndia and The Akshay Patra Foundation take their Midday Meal Scheme to a larger audience, we are extremely proud to be a part of this noble initiative. We are positive that through this special deal more and more children will receive nutritious meals and education. The deal is priced at a nominal cost and is transparent as donors will receive a feedback report on the utilisation of their donation.”
