Congratulations Mumbai on a great Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, 2008!!
Over 30,000 people ran on the streets of Mumbai on Sunday, January 20, 2008. Some of them ran for the sheer joy and excitement, some ran to win prizes, and some ran for fitness. But no matter what the underlying purpose, more than 4,500 RAN TO RAISE MONEY FOR A CAUSE!
GiveIndia has had an overwhelming response from individuals and companies all seeking to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged. 97 NGOs registered with us to be part of the fundraising at the event. Runners could choose from these as well as the 110 NGOs listed with GiveIndia.
There were 3 different categories in which people could run for a cause:
- As members of the Dream Team, 59 individuals each raised Rs1 lac or more for a cause of their choice.
- As a part of their company's Corporate Challenge Team, 97 companies contributed Rs2 lacs per team. With a total of 160 teams, the GiveIndia Corporate Challenge has already raised more than Rs3.20 crore and the employees' pledges are yet to be counted.
- Simply as a part of Pledgers' United, the group of several thousand individuals chose to run for a cause of their own choice. GiveIndia distributed several hundred pledge kits to this group and their completed pledges have started flooding in.
