India Giving Challenge 2013: Sept 03 - Oct 17, 2013
india-giving-challengeWe formally announce the dates for the most awaited festival of Giving - The India Giving Challenge from Sept 03 - Oct 17, 2013.

We are happy to inform you that 30 corporates have already signed up for the India Giving Challenge. We eagerly await your confirmation.

In our last edition we had told you why you should participate in the India Giving Challenge and now here is how you can participate in the Challenge:

Online aspect: Corporates nominate NGOs and create a fund raising page (known as iGive page) on the GiveIndia website for each nominated NGO. The GiveIndia team helps in the process and then supports participants with marketing collateral such as mailers, posters as well as publishes a daily dashboard of overall fund raising progress for all participants.

Offline aspect: The GiveIndia team plans, facilitates activities aimed at creating on-the-ground awareness for the cause by holding NGO mela in offices, taking employees out at a center visit or helping employee champion the cause in executing newer ideas such as fun-n-fairs, in-kind donation drives or volunteering.

We await your participation in the Fifth Edition of the India Giving Challenge. Please write to to know more.
GiveIndia signs-up its 1.25 lac-th Payroll Giver
tesco-1Payroll Giving Programme has been in implementation from the year 2004 and now we have 1,27,000 employees from various organisations who have signed up for the programme.

We celebrated this achievement with our 1.25 lac-th donor Mr. Sisir Behera from TESCO - HSC, Bangalore. Our senior manger Mr. Sandeep Bhandi visited TESCO office and presented certificate of recognition to both the donor and the organisation. On impact of Payroll Giving Programme, Ms. Bonita Narayan, Senior Manager, Communications said, "GiveIndia has been a great partner to support our CSR activities. Ittesco-2 helps our colleagues to connect with various social causes and contribute their bit towards society."

We also awarded Sisir with Rs. 10,000/- as matching contribution from GiveIndia as a token of recognition. On asking asking what prompter him to join the programme, Sisir said, "I always wanted to do something for society and Give India provides me the right platform to do the same. I got to know about Give India and it’s payroll based giving program when I joined Tesco HSC. Now I have the privilege to choose a cause out of more than 250 NGOs. GiveIndia is a path for me to support the people who are in need of us. I am very Thankful to entire team of Give India."
Revealing India Philanthropy
revealing-indian-philanthropyThis book aims to shed light on the positive contribution of philanthropy in India - something that many in India and many outside often forget, or simply do not know. Philanthropy in India is not a new phenomenon, it is ingrained in our culture and tradition.

Over the years we have seen the old industrial families and houses recognize that their wealth creation would not have been possible without the contributions of countless others, and they have given back to the larger society by addressing various issues, such as education, healthcare and the environment.

Deepa Varadarajan, VP-HNI giving, at GiveIndia has contributed to a chapter in the book on "A Changing of the Guard". She speaks about the changing landscape of philanthropists and how the young and new philanthropists have evolved over a period of time in India.
Delivering a Jolt to India's Teacher Training
teacher-trainingAn article on one of GiveIndia's listed NGO Muktangan was published in New York Times. The article highlighted the effectiveness, relevance and role of the Muktangan integrated model of school and teacher training. It emphasizes its potential for developing and training teachers, engaging with children and its community impact.

Samidha Shetya, a mill worker’s daughter with a 10th-grade education, was among the first group of women to start working as teachers for a private group called Muktangan in 2003. She is now among hundreds of teachers who initially had no formal training, much less university degrees in education, working with children from low-income homes.
