This is what some of our PRG donors have to say about their GiveIndia experience...

Shashank C, Payroll Giver employed by Piramal Enterprises
Shashank supported a child in orphan center for a month through ARDAR, that runs a Residential Rehabilitation and Education Centre for orphan and bonded child labour children. The RAINBOW Centre, provides a home to 70 children. The centre is in located at Kotha Kopperla village in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Nanda Narisimha is an orphan boy who used to live on National Highway working in a road side hotel cleaning plates and serving food. He was paid only in the form of shelter and food. One day he was beaten by the hotel proprietor and this observed by one of our staff members. He was about 9 years at that time (one year ago). We studied his case and found that he belonged to Pedathadivada village. As his parents died at an early age, he left the village
and wandered from place to place and started working in the hotel.

ARDAR decided to rescue him and took him to our Rainbow centre. Nanda started in the 2nd standard and he was able to complete 3rd standard also within one year. Now he is a regular student of 4th standard. He is active, good hearted and thinks the Centre is his own home. He is always busy reading and playing. He likes to read General Knowledge books and story books and wants to know more about places, authors and great personalities.

Nanda’s ambition is to join ARDAR after studies and work for the children who need help. He has a lot of concern for younger children, though he himself is a child.

J. Unnikrishnan, Payroll giver employed by ICICI Bank
Mr. J. Unnikrishnan, a Payroll Giver employed by ICICI Bank feels that “GiveIndia has helped ease this situation by directly approaching corporates in order to attract such donors. I am happy to continue my association with GiveIndia. Donating gives me a sense of personal satisfaction and peace of mind.”

Mr. Unnikrishnan chose to sponsor the education of a child through the GiveIndia listed NGO Deepalaya.

Read the story of this lucky little girl:

Neha’s family recently migrated to Delhi from their native place in Uttar Pradesh. Her father is looking for a suitable job with which he can support the family and provide education to his three children.

He has not so far been able to get a job. Since education to children cannot wait indefinitely, he is desperately on the look out for some kind of financial support to meet the educational expenditure of his children.

He was happy to come to know of Deepalaya and now Neha attends classes through them. Neha is a decent and well-behaved girl with an ambition to become a teacher. She is co-operative and attends school regularly, and is neat and clean.

Mr. J. Unnikrishnan has helped change a life. Why don’t you?

Arun Krishnan, Payroll giver employed by HDFC Bank

Arun Krishnan sponsored a cataract operation of an aged with an intra-ocular lens for the NGO HelpAge.

Read on about Paramu and you will see that no change is too small.

Mr. Paramu, age 62 and from the village of Kunnungal was struggling to lead a normal life due to his poor eyesight. Ever hopeful, he made visits to several eye care clinics in the area hoping to find one that would help him. However, due to his inability to pay, Mr. Paramu was unable to get the simple cataract operation he needed.

Luckily for him he came to know of the free eye camps that HelpAge India conducted in nearby Kalamassery. Mr.Paramu was checked out and referred to the Little Flower Hospital at Angamaly for his surgery. Thanks to the kindness of Mr. Krishnan, he has regained normal vision.

Today, Mr. Paramu leads a happy and fulfilled life, taking part in activities made possible by his restored vision.

Sandhya Poojari, Payroll giver employed by HDFC Bank
Sandhya Poojari sponsored an open well for 25 families for the NGO ASSIST.

She says "I am glad that a small contribution from me has made a positive difference in the lives of needy people. I felt humble when I read the feedback".

So will you:

The small village of Vinayakpuram in Andhra Pradesh comprises of 166 families, most of whom are employed as daily wage labourers. None of these villagers own their own land and for most, their annual income is below Rs.12,000.

There were three existing open wells in the village and one bore well with a hand pump. The open wells, which were decades old were damaged and gave water that was polluted due to flooding in past times. Women and children spent hours of their time getting potable water from other sources far away.

The villagers got together to decide how to resolve this miserable situation and planned to build a new well. They took the responsibility of choosing the most equitable place for it where everyone could have access; they even prepared an estimate of the cost and approached ASSIST to help with the finances.

ASSIST, with Sandhya's donation was able to fulfill their request. Without delay the well was dug and a platform built around it. The villagers happily volunteered their time and labour.

Since the well has been dug, the women of the village are very happy. Time saved on water gathering can be devoted to their work or their families.

Reji Philip, Payroll giver employed by HSBC Bank
Reji Philip, a banker who is part of the Cash Management department at HSBC is a member of the Payroll Giving programme.

Reji is troubled by the huge gap between urban and rural lifestyle in India. It was a few years ago, when Reji’s father was diagnosed with cancer and Reji accompanied him to Tata Memorial Hospital that Reji spent time around underpriveleged people. It really struck him how these people had no hope and no ability to change their situation whereas he was in a position to help others out.

Reji prefers using GiveIndia to donate because of the ease of using the site. Being a busy professional with a lot of demands on his time, he likes that GiveIndia has done the groundwork for him – identifying good causes and NGOs. He says “ With GiveIndia, there’s a whole variety of options to choose from and with just a few clicks of the mouse, I can make a donation as well as learn about how the money was spent.”

Reji chose to brighten the day of the mentally ill women residents of the Chennai based NGO, The Banyan by sponsoring a special lunch for them. Just like Reji, you can give someone a better day.

Mr. Reji sponsored lunch for 320 residents and staff of The Banyan.

The lunch was sponsored on the Banyan day (25th March,2007) and consisted of unlimited quantities of rice, sambar, rasam, curd, two kinds of curry, appalams, a sweet and a piece of fruit.

Pushparaj Satoskar, Payroll giver employed by HDFC Bank
Pushparaj Satoskar sponsored dressings and medicines for two patients from the NGO Dean Foundation, Hospice and Palliative Care.

He says:"My motive behind donating was to help someone who is truly in need. I chose to do this thru GiveIndia because I am very happy with the information you provide to donors like me. Your feedback report touched my heart."

We bet it will touch yours too:

Loganathan, a 70 year old man who lives in Chennai is a chronic diabetic. Like many diabetics, he developed an ulcer on his left foot which kept increasing in size and caused him severe pain. He began treatment at a local hospital but had to discontinue the dressings and medication because of the high cost.

This is when he contacted Dean Foundation. A Palliative care team consisting of a doctor, nurse and volunteer visited him and took his full case history. When he was examined by the doctor, it was discovered that the ulcer on his foot was badly infected causing Loganathan's entire leg to swell and become discolored.

The team carefully cleaned the ulcer with saline and an antispetic before bandaging it. Loganathan was given pain medication along with detailed advice on how to care for his foot. Today, Loganathan is happy because with the proper care his ulcer healed well and he can resume his normal routine.

For the lucky few like us it seems unbelievable that Loganathan could have lost his foot without this simple, low cost intervention. Sadly there are millions of Indians who suffer needlessly due to the lack of affordable health care

Mr. Satoskar says "I would invite more people to join hands through the Payroll Giving programme to help some one who is really in need."
