The Times of India has decided to institute ‘The Times of India Social Impact Awards’ to honor wonderful and amazing people and organizations who have been battling enormous odds and making great personal sacrifices so that the lives of disadvantaged people are changed for the better. These Awards will help focus greater attention on five critical spheres: education, healthcare, livelihood, environment and advocacy /empowerment.

There will be three awards in each of the five spheres – a NGO, a
corporate-backed organization and a government body at the state or district level. There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Global Impact Award. We have roped in GiveIndia, Dasra and Guidestar India as process partners in this endeavor. They will do the initial short listing of organizations for our jury members to then take a call on. Click on the link for more details.

We encourage credible organizations to send in  applications for the awards by logging on to www.timessocialawards.com.

Last date for applications: 7th July 2011.

The awards will culminate in a final award ceremony which is scheduled for Sunday, October 2nd 2011.

Mandatory annual report disclosures

You must be busy with the financial audit for 2010-2011 & we thought this is the perfect time to remind you to not to forgot to include the Annual Report Disclosures. The list of mandatory disclosures is as given below:

1. Abridged financials: Balance Sheet, Income & Expenditure, Receipts & Payments Account or Fund Flow Statement
2. The salary and benefits of the NGO Head, the highest paid staff member and the lowest paid staff member.
3. Names of Board members and their position on the board.
4. All remuneration and reimbursements to Board members. Even if there is ‘zero’ remuneration it must be placed on record.
5. Information on the objectives of the organization and a description of the main activities of the year.
6. A Review of progress and results achieved in the year.
7. The distribution of staff according to salary levels and gender break up.
8. Total cost of international travel by all personnel (including volunteers) & Board Members– segregating those incurred on organizational expense and those that were sponsored, along with the name and designation of the person (s) who travelled, and the purpose (s) of travel. Even if there is no travel it will be placed on record.
9. Total cost of national travel by all personnel (including volunteers) & Board Members–. Even if there is no travel it will be placed on record.

Our Annual Report is at the printer & will be mailed to you in the next few weeks. In the meantime you can review GiveIndia’s 2009-2010 Annual Report.
Don't miss out on the benefits of General and Corpus fund donations

We have noticed that many of you have not activated your Corpus/General funds on the GiveIndia site. While these options are not very popular with donors (i.e. compared to donation options which are used for a specific purpose), activating your corpus/general fund does offer its own benefits. These include:

1. Many a times, our donors donate directly to NGOs - without specifying a particular donation option that they would like their funds to be used for. In such cases, we need to offer them a choice of all NGOs which have their Corpus/General Fund activated only - so that we are able to process their donation easily.

In July, the first 10 NGOs to get General Fund activated with us, are each receiving a donation of Rs. 6,000 from these kind of donors. The next such allocation when it happens will happen to the next 10 NGOs. You could be one of them!

2. At the end of the year, we need to disburse unallocated funds that we have accumulated through the year ( mainly from Payroll Givers). Again, this gets distributed amongst NGOs that have Corpus/General funds on GiveIndia.

Also, donors who do not have enough funds to make a regular donation option (minimum Rs. 500) but would yet like to make one opt for the Corpus/General fund option (minimum Rs. 250). If you would like to get your Corpus/General Fund option up on the GiveIndia site, please fill out this feedback template and send it across to feedbacksupport@giveindia.org.

During the course of our random verification visits of NGOs & checking of feedback reports we are encountering many situations where the reality on the ground doesn't match with the information provided in the Donation Options form B. We are now trying to close these gaps. We have sent a DO Form to 123 Partner NGOs in June and will be reaching out to all remaining partner NGOs in the next few weeks. We request your cooperation in filling this and mailing it back to us at the earliest.
