Top 10 NGOs who received funds this month

Prestigious Padma awards

GiveIndia is delighted to share that our Chairman, Mr.Vaghul received the Padma Bhushan and our Director, Ms.Anu Aga received the Padma Shri award on Jan 26 this year.

Winners of the first US Giving Challenge

Similar to the India Giving Challenge, we held a US Giving Challenge in December, which saw NGOs reach out to their supporters in the US. We would like to share with you that over $25,000 was raised from over 175 donors. The top winner in the Funds Raised category was Operation Asha. While Psycho Educational Society was the top winner in the Number of Donors category. View the entire list of winners. For all those who were part of this event, we would love to hear your experience about the event. This will help us hold a bigger and better US Giving Challenge next year!

Tier I NGO renewals

Of the 210 NGOs whose listing was due for renewal, 197 successfully completed renewals while 13 were delisted for non compliance of norms/not completing renewals on time. Despite our early reminder in July on Annual Report disclosures, several NGOs did not comply and had to re-print their Annual Reports. We hope that going forward all NGOs will comply and complete the process on time.

ConnectIT workshop series for NGOs

235 participants from 157 NGOs attended IT training workshops organised by NASSCOM Foundation under the ConnectIT series. Many GiveIndia partners also took advantage of these 4-day training workshops held in Pune, Nagpur, Sangli and Mumbai between Nov 2009 and Jan 2010. In the workshops held in a lab format, participants picked tips and tricks to use MS Office more effectively in their day to day operations. Sessions on the use of social media, moviemaking and presentations were a favourite with NGOs. GuideStar India reached out to more than 1700 NGOs across Maharashtra inviting them to take advantage of the free IT training workshops. Two of GiveIndia’s team members, Hussain from Payroll Giving and Sambaji from Backoffice attended the Mumbai workshop.

The next set of 6 workshops will be held in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur from mid March onwards. The last set of 6 workshops in the series will be held in Orissa in 2010-11. GiveIndia NGOs are encouraged to register (especially their staff managing donation feedbacks) with GuideStar India for these workshops and take advantage of the IT training. For registrations, send an email to

Comments feature on our website for visitors

In August last year, we introduced a comments feature on the website for vistors on the following pages - all GiveIndia Tier I listed NGOs’ information and Donation Option pages and all iGive pages created on the site.

After an initial glitch, this feature is now working properly and is in fact gaining popularity amongst site visitors. Do remember that the comments posted here are independent views of visitors to the GiveIndia site and in no way do they affect NGOs listing status on GiveIndia. There is no compulsion to reply to these comments either. However, we advise you to visit your pages on the site regularly and reply to comments left by visitors, where a reference has been made or question has been asked with regards to your NGO. This will go a long way in engaging a visitor who has taken time out to read through your information on the site. Further, we also encourage you to use this feature to your advantage; especially on iGive pages - which are used to raise funds for projects not verified by GiveIndia and which do not entail a regular feedback report. You could utilize the comments space to post a feedback on the use of funds raised through an iGive page or to post any other information you may feel relevant to visitors with respect to that page.
