If you do not see your NGO here, please visit http://www.giveindia.org/t-india-giving-challenge-2011-ngo-champions.aspx to see where you stand. For details on how much your NGO has won in matching funds, please visit: http://www.giveindia.org/t-india-giving-challenge-2011-matching-details.aspx. Over the next couple of days, you will receive a mail from our feedback team requesting you for certain details, in order for us to disburse the same to you.

You may witness a small discrepancy between the funds mentioned on the above pages and on your iGive page and what will finally get disbursed. This will be on account of multiple reasons as given below:
• Prizes have been decided based upon funds credited into our accounts as per November 8th, 2011. Funds received after that date have not been considered towards the prizes.
• We have done a check on all email IDs through which India Giving Challenge donations have been made and not taken into consideration donations from email IDs that bounced back.
• Many cheques/DDs were sent to us without transaction ids. These are not considered in the challenge.
• Bounceback and outstation cheque charges will be deducted while making disbursements.

However rest assured, ALL funds raised through your iGive page(s) will be disbused to your organisation. :-)

This brings us to the end of the third India Giving Challenge. We hope you enjoyed being part of the event and would like to join us again in an even bigger way next year.

Thank you once again for your support.

India Giving Challenge 2011 - Update for the Last Day

Dear All,

So here we are at the end of 45 days of the challenge. I would like to thank all of you for your great support and enthusiasm in reaching out to your supporters and in the process taking the India Giving Challenge to a new level.

While we will continue to sort out the cheques over the next 19 days and make sure that all the money received from you is indeed credited to your pages, we are glad to announce that all of you have now raised more than Rs. 2.5 crores from 7,000+ donors!

Please ensure that any cheques still lying with you/your donors are sent to us over the next 2-3 days itself, so that they do indeed clear by November 8th. (Do note that the banks are closed on 26th October and 7th November.)

And though a little late, we would also like to share with you an article on The India Giving Challenge that appeared in the newspaper, The Mint on October 12th - http://www.livemint.com/2011/10/12190533/Social-media-changes-fundrais.html?h=B.

Tip of the Day:
Today, being the last day of the Joy of Giving Week, we'd like to share with you a few more encouraging words; this time from Vinayak Lohani, CEO of Parivaar Education Society and winner of the previous challenges. This is what he shared with us last year during the India Giving Challenge:

"This year, I am seeing the India Giving Challenge primarily as an occasion, indeed a tool, for reactivating persons who are loosely connected supporters, who for some reasons have become slightly out of touch; and using our close supporters to reach out to new supporters. It would be not be incorrect to say that last year the prospect of substantial matching gifts was the dominant factor for us to be interested in this event. We had timed donations so as to optimise the matching grant for a particular day or week.

But this year, I questioned my earlier view and thought why not think beyond 'Matching Grants', by working to increase the net inflows themselves and not worry overly about programing the donation-schedule during the challenge period. I could see that the 'Joy of Giving Week', which was a lesser known commodity last year, was becoming incerasingly well-known and that this could help fund-raising for the IGC too as it gave an occasion, a context for seeking funds.

To give an example, I myself wonder that in the last 15 days I must have sent repeat mails every alternate day to scores of persons to whom I hitherto used to feel hesitant in seeking donations directly. Also, even the small-magnitude donor sees value in his donation due to the possibe magnification of his donation.

I have absolutely no doubt that the IGC would be of much greater benefit to an organisation which uses it to maximise the fund-inflow than thinking only for maximising matching grants through schedule optimisation. The India Giving Challenge is not merely an annual event now, but a valuable property as it has the potential to unlock substantial gains for all participant organisations. By being part of the 'Joy of Giving Week' umbrella, the IGC is getting benefitted. Similarly, the 'Joy of Giving Week' is getting strengthened from the IGC. But most importantly the 'giving culture' is getting a boost."

Dear GiveIndia Team,

First of all, I would like to thank you from bottom of my heart. Initially, I had some inhibition about creating an iGive page. JK MAASS Foundation is really struggling to raise funds. Actually we were very much lagging in fund raising from individual donors.
Our entry into GiveIndia is a boon to us. It has supported us in many ways in terms of individual fundraising, transparency, accounting etc. It is only because of you people that I have achieved almost 25% of my target for next year’s expenses of the special school; I still have 12 more months in my hands. The initial days of this challenge was very dull for me. I sent emails to so many people; around 150 to 200; but I did not get response from anybody. I was so upset. Day-by- day, I was receiving mails from you about the funds raised by others and the matching grant. This only stimulated me and the tips from you people to call them over phone - was the initiation for this great achievement.
I called one of my cousin and told him about this challenge. Then only he went through the mail and donated Rs.1,001- the first donor of my iGive page. Then only I came to understand that most of the people have not read the mail.
I changed some text and again forwarded to more number of people. But still there was no response. Then, while checking my mail whenever I used to see that a donation had been made through my iGive page, I decided to spend some more time to gather info about left out friends and forward this info to them. Anyway, one by one started spreading the news about the challenge and finally it has come to a great end. I think this is not the end - this will go a long way. The announced matching grant was also a great catalyst in this process.

Tip of the Day:
Today is Dussera. Many of your donors will be at home relaxing. So, today would be a good day to give them a call and request them to make that donation they have been putting of for another time :-).

Also, as we had mentioned earlier - anyone can give. It does not matter who they are. It does not matter if they have supported your organisation in the past or not. It does not matter if they have ever donated in the past or not. So, if you are attending any Dussera functions today, do take the opportunity to ask for donations. Besides, today is one of the most auspicious days of the year. And contributing to better the lives of the underprivileged is a very auspicious thing to do :-)

Tip of the Day:
Given the prizes this week, I would urge all of you to really go all out where your fundraising is concerned. Many of you are telling us that you have sent across your email appeals but have not heard back from anyone you sent the appeal too. If this situation sounds familiar, do pick up the phone and call your donors. You will learn, as other organisations, who did follow-up phone calls with their donors have, that:
(a) Many times, donors do not receive your emails - they go into spam and are missed by the donor
(b) The concept of the challenge and the importance of making a donation, though explained in your mail, has not been understood by them
(c) They tried to make a donation but could not complete it

Your phone call will help you understand what prevented your donors from making their donations.
The fact that you put in the effort to followup with them shows them how important their donation is to you.

Calling up and following with donors was the winning formula for many past challenge winners. Do go through the attached document ( both Hindi and English versions attached), which speak of the experiences of past winners.

Tip of the Day:
Many of you have mentioned that you'll are in touch with your corporate sponsors. An easy and great way to get your corporates to support you during the India Giving Challenge is by encouraging their employees to donate. Employees of many companies we are in touch with have decided to give up one day of their salary this week - being the Joy of Giving Week! Do suggest this option to companies you are in touch with too. It's a great way to get everyone in the organisation involved in the same cause.

Get in touch with us if you do get have a company whose employees would like to support your organisation and we'll share with you an easy process to enable the same.

India Giving Challenge 2011 - Day 1 of the Joy of Giving Week

Dear All,

For the first time since the challenge begun, we have a tie! So, instead of 5, we have 6 winners for yesterday, October 2nd - the first day of the Joy of Giving Week. The matching grant for the 5th spot gets split. Also, just see how close Samrita Trust came to winning a prize, sigh!
NGO Funds Raised (Rs.) Matching Grant Won (Rs.)
 Parivaar Education Society 71,001 40,000
 Bhumi 52,670 20,000

Do remember that there's Rs. 1 lac to be won EVERYDAY this week! Plus, there are prizes for the top-50 NGOs of the week by an anonymous donor, as follows:

 Udayan Care 10,000 10,000
 Sevalaya 10,000 10,000

Tip of the Day:
Remember, GiveIndia now retains 6.5%, not 9.1%, of all iGive donations. Which means more of your donors money comes to you. So, do take this opportunity to go back to donors who did not appreciate the 9.1% and let them know about this. We have especially made this reduction in time for the Joy of Giving Week - to help you to reach out more.

Do remember there's Rs. 50,000 to be won today too!

Tip of the Day:
I notice that many of you have set up pages but have not yet begun reaching out. Remember, donors will only learn of your iGive pages, when YOU tell them about it. They wll only know that your organisation can win additional funds for their donation, when YOU request them to donate.

On that note, I would like to share this blog post from a rather popular blog on fundraising. The post is titled Are you too embarrassed to fundraise? and shares tips with how you can overcome that feeling. Here's a jist of what's mentioned:

When asking people for donation, if you don’t feel that you are giving someone an opportunity to be part of an extraordinary organization that does terrific things, you are in the wrong place. That’s true whether you are staff or a member of the Board. Making a donation is not a chore or onerous—it is a blessing, a gift. Indeed, the latter is the word we use to describe support that is given.

Tip of the Day:
While some of you are yet to reach out, some of you have already begun to do so. And the feedback that we are getting from many of you is that you have sent across your email appeals but have not heard back from anyone you sent the appeal too. If this situation sounds familiar, do pick up the phone and call your donors. You will learn, as other organisations, who did follow-up phone calls with their donors have, that:
(a) Many times, donors do not receive your emails
(b) The concept of the challenge and the importance of making a donation, though explained in your mail, has not been understood by them
(c) They tried to make a donation but could not complete it

Your phone call will help you understand what prevented your donors from making their donations.
The fact that you put in the effort to followup with them shows them how important their donation is to you.

Calling up and following with donors was the winning formula for many past challenge winners. Do go through the attached document ( both Hindi and English versions attached), which speak of the experiences of past winners. And as always, feel free to reach out to me or my colleague Rakhee (rakhee@giveindia.org) for any assistance with regards to the challenge.

September 20, 2011:
India Giving Challenge 2011 - Yesterday's winners and prizes for the top-50 NGOs during Joy of Giving Week

Dear All,
At the start of the challenge, we announced the overall prizes. Yesterday we announced that the top 5 fundraising NGOs of the day this week can win prizes upto Rs. 50,000 daily.
And now today, we’re happy to announce an additional set of prizes for you. A well-wisher of GiveIndia, who has been following the challenge closely for the past 3 years, has decided that he too wants to be a part of the event. He has been impressed by all your efforts over the years and so to motivate you to reach out all the more, has decided to sponsor the following set of prizes:

Matching prizes to the top 50 NGOs that raise the most money during Joy of Giving Week ( i.e. Sun, Oct 2nd - Sat, Oct 8th, 2011) as follows:
GO Position  Matching Grant Limit (Rs.) Minimum Funds to be Raised to Qualify (Rs.)
 1-10 35,000 each 35,000
 11-20 30,000 each 30,000
 21-30 25,000 each 25,000
 31-40 15,000 each 15,000
 41-50 10,000 each 10,000

This gives 50 NGOs a chance to win a prize that week! ( provided they raise a minimum of just Rs. 10,000) . So if you have not set up your iGive page, DO IT NOW! If you have not registered for the Challenge, DO IT NOW! We just made it a whole lot easier even for the smaller NGOs to win a matching grant.
Please note that these well-wisher prizes can be won only during the Joy of Giving Week. But that shouldn’t deter you from reaching out today to take a chance at the Rs. 50,000 on offer daily! And all of this will count towards your overall prizes.
Now, didn’t we tell you that there were a lot more prizes coming your way?
