GiveIndia hosted an event on November 17, 2006, to celebrate the listing of 14 Indian NGOs that were most recently certified by us. The purpose of the event was:

  • Mainstreaming the idea of market mechanisms in philanthropy and the concept of "listing" NGOs on a philanthropy exchange and getting thought leaders to appreciate this paradigm.
  • To introduce these NGOs to a select group of sensitive opinion leaders and give them an opportunity to engage with issues in greater depth.
  • To 'recognize' these NGOs for having recently undergone the process of listing with us successfully, thereby achieving a significant milestone in their efforts to become efficient and transparent organizations.

Event Highlights

  • Brief showcasing of the work of 14 NGOs through audio-visuals followed by awarding of certificates of recognition to NGO representatives.

  • Address by Mr. N. Vaghul - Chairman, GiveIndia and also Chairman, ICICI Bank and the Economic Times Lifetime Achievement Awardee, 2006.

  • Panel Discussion Experiences in Personal Engagement with Philanthropy. Distinguished speakers who addressed the audience were:
Ms. Nandita Das   - Actor & activist for various social causes
Mr. Amit Chandra  - MD, DSP Merill Lynch India
Ms. Sunita Menon - Astrologer & tarot card reader
Dr. Nachiket Mor   - Dy MD, ICICI Bank

  • Presentation of funds (raised by Giving Circles and Individual Fund Raisers) to NGOs.

A similar event was hosted by GIVE USA on November 21, 2006 at the boardroom of the New York Stock Exchange for recognizing the same 14 Indian NGOs.

Unique Fund Raising Concepts

In the months preceding the Event, GiveIndia reached out to individuals set up Giving Circles or to register as Individual Fund Raisers (IFRs) to raise funds for the participating NGOs. We also approached companies to set up and Corporate Giving Circles. Click on the links below to know more about these unique and engaging formats for raising funds.
