Firstsource Solutions Limited-
Education for Sustainable Livelihood

Firstsource initiated a strategic philanthropy program in September 2004 in order to make their community contributions more impactful, measurable and sustainable. GiveIndia was appointed to determine where the organization wanted to focus their contributions. This was done through meetings with senior management as well as a company-wide online survey on employee preferences.

The survey elicited a strong response from employees and resulted in the selection of a key focus area for the community involvement model- Education for a Sustainable Livelihood. This model aimed at instilling various skills (such as vocational skills, literacy, personality development, English speaking and enterprise management) in underprivileged youth enabling them to become economically independent.

Keeping this in mind, we decided to partner with the Dr. Reddy's Foundation for Human and Social Development (DRFHSD) to implement Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS) program in Bangalore. The LABS program (launched in October 2005) will train 1400 underprivileged youth in vocations such as BPO skills, Housekeeping, Retail, Advanced Computing and support 7 batches of training over a period of 28 months. Firstsource plans to work in close conjunction with the LABS team to identify the potential livelihood options available for the youth and train them according to the market requirements, thus achieving the goals of poverty alleviation and self-employment.

Placing a Corporate Social Initiatives Manager at Firstsource

The Corporate philanthropy program involves many challenges, such as demonstrating continuous success on the project, setting certain standards in terms of the NGO's work (programming and monitoring of the project), focused management and appraisal of all corporate social initiatives (future NGO partners, projects), etc. To overcome these challenges, a corporate needs to invest in a full time dedicated person to handle its philanthropy activities.

We have hired an individual to manage the social initiatives program of Firstsource. This person takes care of all NGO partnerships, promotes employee volunteering, advices international clients - all this while keeping the philanthropy strategic and focused.

Client Feedback

"The Taj Group has been involved in major Community Initiatives for several years. However there was no strategic framework within which the Key Community was defined or no thematic approach as to how we can maximize our impact in our key communities. GiveIndia helped us do precisely that."

Bernard Martyris
Sr. Vice President
Human Resources - The TAJ Group of Hotels

"GiveIndia turned out to be a great find for us. We had been grappling with vague good sentiments, but not knowing exactly what to do or where to start. They helped us clarify and articulate our intentions, resulting in a practical plan for effective and meaningful community involvement. They have demonstrated a rare combination of sensitivity to business considerations and expertise in effective philanthropy. Any company wanting to convert good intentions into a workable yet idealistic community initiative will definitely benefit from GiveIndia's services."

Jerry Rao
Chairman & Managing Director
MphasiS BFL Ltd.

"Our experience with GiveIndia CCS has been very good. Particularly since ING Vysya is new to this and since focus on charity has not been given a top priority, it was helpful to have CCS provide some structure to our work. They also helped identify (through various surveys, interviews, etc.) our primary charitable objectives. The CCS team has been great to work with, providing guidance and advice, but also offering us sufficient flexibility to allow us to do what was best for ING Vysya."

Eapen Chandy
Vice President
ING Vysya Bank

"GiveIndia has been our partner in the Corporate Social Initiatives program. They helped us identify the issue most employees identified with and helped us get started in that area. We continue to work with them to keep increasing our contribution to the society that we live in. The people at GiveIndia are knowledgeable, responsive and have exhibited a keen understanding of 'where we come from' in this context."
