This project will help more than 100 children from slums in & around Bangalore. Majority of these are 1st generation learners of illiterate parents who earn an average income of Rs. 2000 per month, live in make shift homes/small huts with no toilet facilities, water or electricity. Many of them drop out as they cannot afford to commute to school. This project would enable them to stay on campus, in a clean & hygenic environment conducive to studying.
Most of the children are children of vegetable vendors, flower sellers, housemaids, auto drivers, construction workers, petty traders, carpenters, watchmen etc. Most of the children come from families who live in cramped houses with no water, electricity or toilet facilities. They live in different slums of Bangalore and commuting becomes an expensive proposition both for the parents and for us. The children live on the campus during the week. At present they live in make-shift rooms which also double up as staff/volunteers quarters.Such an arrangement neither provides privacy and space for the children and volunteers, nor does it make it a safe and comfortable place to live in. They want to ensure that a clean and hygienic living style improves quality of life
