The service, which has been developed and managed by this NGO, is a 24 hour, toll free phone outreach service linking children in need of help and protection to organizations run by government departments as well as those run by civil society agencies. It proposes to set up Centralised Call Centers in 50 cities by 2012.
In India Children or concerned adults dial the number 1098 and are connected to this service in their city. Children it reaches out to include Street children, Child addicts, Abused children, Mentally ill children, Child laborers, HIV/AIDS infected children, Differently-abled children, Child victims of the flesh trade, Children in institutions, Child political refugees, Children in conflict with the law, Children whose families are in crisis and Children affected by conflict and disaster. A huge change has taken pace in the telecom industry since 1996, when the organisation started, forcing it to change its method of operating & adopting Centralised call centre model. In October 2007, with support from TCS, a pilot facility was launched on a CSR basis, from the Wellspring facility of TCS at Vikhroli. Till date, the CCC has serviced calls from Mumbai, Thane city, South Goa, Kota, Amravati and Sholapur, Nashik and Ranchi. Now the CCC is being extended to cover upto 50 cities before March 2010 and thereafter to all cities .
