Food & Health facilities are very poor in slum areas of Mumbai. Poverty and low awareness adversely impact the nutritional status of the children in the slum areas of Mumbai. A rather low priority attached to education, high poverty levels resulting in children being sent out to work to earn a living. Awareness for proper food habits and balanced diet needs to be generated. It has been realized that the growth and development of children, their needs for food and feeding problems are inter-related. The period from birth to twelve years are very crucial, particularly during the preschool and early school years. During this period, maximum development and resistance against diseases are achieved. Understanding the nutritional needs of children, the NGO has formulated a mid day meal programme. |
