The Project aims to effect a qualitative improvement in the education being imparted to children with intellectual disability enrolled in special schools, initially in Delhi and subsequently to special schools located in other states of the country.Approximately 3200 children with intellectual disability studying in the 92 special schools in Delhi will initially benefit from this project.
Historically persons with intellectual disabilities have been branded with the label of “incapable” resulting in the withholding of appropriate opportunities for education. In schools they continue to be taught by the same methods known to be effective in “normal children. Consequently they are ill-prepared for adulthood with little literacy and no job prospects.It is essential to make widely available teaching material that is based on their unique learning styles
