Salomi, a junior college student lives in village Maliguda of Koraput district in Orissa. Salomi, a junior college student lives in village Maliguda of Koraput district in Orissa. Her father is a tribal labourer earning Rs 60/day.The village has no grid power. They spent Rs 60-80/month for purchasing kerosene. She could not study near the kerosene lamp due to poor illumination. She complained of eyestrain & headache by prolonged exposure to toxic fumes of lamps.

SAHARA visited Maliguda & saw condition of the villagers. We assured some support. After 3 months SAHARA could provide a LED light to each family. This brought light to a poor family in darkness and create a cleaner environment.

Rs.1500/ to a poor family could help eliminate burning of fossil fuel products: kerosene lamps; protecting the environment. The children are able to study at night. The LED light has improved the education, health and productivity of villagers and enhanced their safety. Youth entrepreneurs also increased their income.
