Success Story

Gori is a tribal woman living in Rajput village in Koraput, Orissa. Gori is a tribal woman living in Rajput village in Koraput, Orissa. She did not have any source of livelihood. Being an illiterate woman she was working as a maidservant. Her husband expired within 8 years of their marriage, leaving her and their three children struggling for survival. She had no any landed property

SAHARA visited Gori?s village and spoke with her about the benefits of a Self Help Group. SAHARA organized a female facilitator to come to the village every Friday to conduct a women?s meeting, form a women Self Help Group and train the women on book writing, petty business and entrepreneurship. The women developed saving habits and the savings were kept in K.P.G. Bank Sunabeda.

Within two years the women SHG of Rajput village brought a Mahendra Tractor under the scheme of DRDA Koraput, financed by K.P.G Bank Sunabeda with Rs.1 Lakh subsidy. All the group members are engaged and earning their livelihood regularly and they are proud owners of a tractor. Now Gori is no longer a maid servant but the president of the Self Help Group.
