Success Story

NULL Seven-year-old Ramavat Lalitha Bai is the sixth child of poor agricultural labourers residing in Gandiganumala Thanda of Bollapalli Mandal in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. Like many in her community, Lalitha Bai was also forced to join the labour force and she would pluck cotton and chillies, collect firewood and rear cattle.

When ASSIST met Lalitha Bai, her plight moved them to action. They motivated her family to stop sending her to work and instead send her to school. After repeated efforts, ASSIST managed to get her enrolled into the second standard at the school run by ASSIST. She is now in the third standard in a residential school.

Lalitha Bai is doing well in her studies.The ASSIST staff visits her family every three months for a follow-up. She is no longer a child labourer.
