Success Story

Living with HIV is stigmatized and discriminated in our society. Living with HIV is not only stigmatized and discriminated in our society. But, if the family is underprivileged, then the situation is pathetic and all the more worsens. Here is such a case of a widowed woman and her daughter.

Uma, a 30 year old woman used to live as a scrap picker. She mangaged to provide food for herself and her daughter. Continuing her life with these obstacles was not so difficult to her, but coping with their HIV status was not very easy.

After coming to DESIRE Society, Uma got employed as a servant for kids staying at the organisation and she is paid Rs 1500/- per month. Her daughter has been admitted at DESIRE as in-patient child, where she is able to have the facilities of accommodation, nutrition, treatment and education as well at no cost. Finally, they live away from stigma and discrimination.
