The Cancer was terminal and symptoms both painful and difficult for Murugan and his family to cope with emotionally and physically.

DEAN visited the patient and helped with pain killers, immediate treatment of the local infection and counselled the family to be both prepared for the end and be more supportive to Murugan in his last days.

He was kept reasonably comfortable till death. After his death, his wife and mother were helped to cope with the bereavement. His wife who had attempted to suicide before DEANs intervention has now started working and is motivated to take care of her little daughter.
