Overview

KIRAN is an NGO which provides education, vocational training and rehabilitation to underprivileged children from very poor families. It is situated in the outskirts of Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh.

How It Works

• Kiran is a kind of village where both differently-abled children and non-disabled children learn, live and play together.
• Many of these children come from far off villages.
• Subsequently they need to stay in the NGO's hostel, as otherwise they would not have a chance for education due to their disability.
• There are separate hostels for boys and girls and separate hostels for younger and older students.

Statistics

• 1 – Number of differently- abled children living in the hostel whose living expenses will be covered by this donation

Santosh’s Beautiful Story Of Sharing
Santosh comes form a poor family in a village north of Varanasi District. He came to the KIRAN Hostel at the age of about 8 years and was paralysed in both legs, due to Post polio Paralysis. His family was very poor and the father had abandoned them.
We gave Santosh physiotherapy, provided him with calipers and he followed formal education up to the 5th class. During that time he stayed in our hostel, and was a very happy and eager student.
After leaving KIRAN he studied in a school near to his village, but only up to 8th class since he wanted to do something for helping his mother and sister. With a small loan from KIRAN he could start a little business in the village. Little by little his situation improved and he could even purchase a tractor. Then his dream to help other poor children with education became a reality: with his own efforts he started a small village school where today 50 poor children are receiving education. He also got married and has one girl child. Santosh says that he wants to share with other poor children all what he himself had received in KIRAN: education and learning the values for a happy life.
