Success Story

There are around one million mentally ill people in India. There are around one million mentally ill in India. Most of them are from verylow-income group. Medical facilities available in Government mental hospitals are too inadequate besides the hospitals are overcrowded. Residential care through NGOs is nearly absent excepting very few like SCARF.

SCARF constructed three residential centres between 1988 and 2003 to treat and rehabilitate the mentally ill. The total bed strength is 140. Admissions are made under a. fully paid, b. partly free and c. fully free scategories. There are 20 free beds in all the three centres. Sponsorship is requested on monthly / yearly basis to meet out these expenses.

With proper medication, the patient recovers swiftly. During the post recovery period, active training in various vocational skills is imparted. This along with counselling helps him / her return to the main stream life.
