Overview

Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) work with a cluster of orphanages in a particular rural area. These orphanages have been identified through field studies. The objective of the organization is to bring about overall improvement in these orphanages with respect to child care, health and living standards.

How It Works

• Nutrition support is offered to these children, along with a well balanced diet, which has been worked out after consulting professionals at the SNDT College of Home Science, Mumbai. The NGO staff/volunteers constantly keep a check on whether this diet is being implemented in the orphanages.
• The NGO has tied up with local stores to supply provisions to these orphanages.
• With respect to health care, need-based support is provided to the children in the form of vaccinations, health checkups, medicines, and treatment.
• The required medicines and other healthcare items are provided by local stores.
• The recreational needs of the children are met through playpens, music system/CDs, books and toys, which are provided by the NGO.

Radha now, has a Family!!
Their parents relinquished Aarti and Radha when they were just 4 and 2 years old respectively. Radha was born with Congenital Talipes Equino Varrus a physical deformity in one of her legs. She was unable to walk. There were parents who wanted to adopt Aarti but not Radha. The Central Adoption and Resource Authority, Government of India, regulates that siblings are not to be separated and must be placed in a single adoptive family. Thus the siblings remained un-adopted, resigned to life in an orphanage i.e. Jyotiba Phule Seva Trust, Sunita Gutte Shishugrah, Nanded.
CSA referred Radha to Dr. Prakash Chavan an Orthopedic surgeon in Nanded, who suggested corrective surgery. Sponsored by CSA, Radha was operated on 26th January 2010. Within a couple of months Radha started walking. She was soon, a normal kid and as playful and mischievous.
A family in Pune adopted the siblings Aarti and Radha. The family already had 3 sons-one biological and two adopted. With 2 sisters being added, the family is complete! Aarti and Radha have adapted themselves completely to their new family. Radha is already a darling to her elder brothers! For the children the rehabilitation is complete and permanent- health, nurture, education, career, relationships and inheritance is all provided for!
