Spurthi Mahila Mandal implements their programme: "The Role of Law and Reproductive Health Of Women" in Bijapur District, Karnataka, since 2012. In the process, they have come across people who are very poor and some who are ill and suffer from Tuberculosis (TB) or HIV.

How It Works

• The organisation provides patients with lunch and dinner every day
• Extra nutrition in the form of half a litre of milk daily and fruits twice a week are also provided to help them to withstand their medical treatment.
• The food is prepared by a cook at Spurthi's outlet and supplied to the patients at their home, located within a radius of 2-3 km from the centre.
• Beneficiaries usually live with their families, so volunteers also meet the patient and their family once in 15 days, to provide some moral support and confidence to battle their condition.
• Most of the family members believe that the disease is highly contagious and so keep the patients in total isolation. Hence, the Spurthi volunteers regularly counsel the family members educating them about the condition.
