Bani Mandir, along with volunteers operates a programme to provide food and health support to the elderly in need. Any donations are usually utilized within 2 months due to the large number of beneficiaries.

How It Works

• The staff and volunteers choose the beneficiaries based on surveys, with the help of the villagers and VDC based on the programme’s requirement and the village Panchayat’s recommendation.
• A primary list of beneficiaries made in 2008 is constantly updated and people in the list continue to get support.
• Individual donors, including Give India donors help Bani Mandir in cash or kind.
• Most beneficiaries are capable of collecting the rations from the office themselves. But in case they are unable to do so, the Bani Mandir staff delivers it to their doorstep.
• During the distribution of monthly ration, the children can get a routine health check-up at Bani Mandir Health Centre.
• They can also visit the doctor on other days if they fall sick. Bani Mandir also occasionally organizes medical checkups at the camps in different villages.

The Basics

• The food products distributed are Atta (locally available wheat flour), coarse rice ( Swarna , Jogen , Laghu , Ratna , Lalat etc), sugar, cooking oil (1 litre Nutura, Saffola, Sathi etc) and biscuits (350 packs of Britannia, Parle, Biskfarm etc).
• Bani Mandir will increase their distribution quantities if they can get sugar at lower prices.
• Medicines are provided by prescription.

The Statistics

• In the year 2014-15, 250+ elderly persons receive the support
