Success Story

Vimla, an HIV positive widow with two HIV positive children had no source of support after the death of her husband. Vimla, an HIV positive widow with two HIV positive children had no source of support after the death of her husband. Her in-laws took away all her belongings and deserted her. She was trying to sustain herself and the children on the meager income from working as a domestic help in a couple of homes, but she lost her work due to her HIV status. When we intervened all three were in poor health and very malnourished.

The Naz Home Based Care program intervened and got widow pension for Vimla and started providing nutritional supplements for the children and facilitated provision of free Anti-Retro Viral Therapy (ART) for the older child. The program supported her by providing ration supplements for a few months, and helped her find more work.

Vimla and her children are doing much better since joining the Naz Program. In fact, once their health had improved, they no longer required nutritional supplements. Counselors continue to aid Vimla in exploring legal options to get her due share in the property of her husband.
