" Overview

Kidpower supports poor girl children and disabled children through a network of schools catering to slum children in Visakhapatnam. This support is given as and when Kidpower receives funding for it. The support is for a number of girl children from different schools for visually challenged schools in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagram. The children are totally or partially blind.

How It Works

• The support is to meet the basic needs and support education in the school.
• The NGO also helps bring behavioural changes and make the children confident.
• A Kidpower staff member is responsible for the project.
• She regularly visits the school to counsel the girls on how to maintain personal hygiene and trains the children on safe behaviour and gaining self-confidence.
• The school schedules these sessions.

Bhavani – a bright singer
Grandhi Bhavani is a 9th grade student of Yendada Govt School for Visually Challenged girl children. Her mother is no more & her father remarried. Bhavani is staying with her grandmother who is unable to afford her basic needs. She is very good in studies and her ambition is to become a government civil servant. Bhavani is also a very good singer and was selected for the ETVs Black singing talent.
Kidpower India is working with Yendada Government School for Visually Challenged girl children. We provided Bhavani with education material and some basic items. We have realized the need for computer education and have started computer training.
Bhavani is very happy with the support and now she has her own education material. Previously she had problem getting sanitary napkins or being able to travel to home, now she is able to afford it. She also enjoys her computer classes. They also have a support staff to help them.
