Overview

SOS Children's Villages of India’s objective is to provide long-term family-based care to parentless and abandoned children by giving them a family, home and a strong foundation for an independent and secure life.

The Basics

In this regard, the organisation operates on four guiding principles that play an important role in developing a child’s personality. These are: a. The Mother: Each child has a caring parent. b. Brothers & Sisters: Family ties grow naturally. c. The House: Each family creates its own home. d. The Village: The SOS family is a part of the community.

How It Works

• In each of SOS Children's Villages of India s Homes, there is a dedicated SOS mother who takes care of the children and stays with them in the same family at all times.
• All aspects of child development in the home, such as education, health, nutrition, upkeep of the family home, extra-curricular activities and other miscellaneous expenses are taken care of, along with capacity building, emotional and physical well being of the mother.

Statistics

• 8-10 – Number of children in each of SOS Children’s Villages of India’s Homes

SOS Mother
SOS mothers are one of the pillars of the Family Based Care program at SOS Children’s Villages. Quite a few mothers have faced personal difficulties, are widowed / divorced and have the need for a sense of belonging.
After coming to SOS Children’s Villages of India their lives undergo a positive transformation. They are provided 6 month practical and theoretical training at SOS Mother Training Institute at Faridabad. They have their own family consisting of 8-10 children. They have sense of security, respect, belongingness and financial freedom. Apart from committed child care workers, the mothers also get a family for life.
