Unsung Heroes
The Banyan is about people, the homeless women who make it their home, the clients at out OP clinics, Day care Centre and our unsung heroes – Our staff. For 18 years the staff at The Banyan has not only provided care and treatment but has taken on the roles of sisters, mothers, confidantes and friends of the residents. The Banyan family is incomplete without its staff members. While each member of our staff contributes to the well being of our residents, none do it more ardently than our Psychiatric Social Workers.
An average stay of about six months within The Banyan would ensure that most of the residents are in a stabilised condition both psychiatrically and physically and ready for discharge. Counselling is necessary in order to tackle unresolved conflicts, procure details on original environment pertaining to relationships, prior mode of treatment, work skills, status in family/community.
They provide interpersonal counseling services, helping patients, family members, and caregivers learn more about mental disorders and the best ways to cope with them. Specific problems are identified & recorded. The main goal of most psychiatric social workers is to help patients live and work in society with the highest degree of independence possible.
