A home with hope
Deepalaya works with street and working children who are runaways and children of sex workers, HIV Positive parents, Alcoholics and drug addicts. As these children are from deprived backgrounds-on the emotional, physical, social fronts. When brought under our care they receive overall rehabilitation support to help overcome the deprivation in their life. Healthy nutritious meals are one component of this rehabilitation process. In addition the emotional, social, academic/vocational rehabilitation also takes place through facilities available in the campus as well as nearby town of Tauru.
The children were given individual attention and advised about hygienic living and healthy food habits. They were provided balanced food thrice a day and a snack in the break time at school. The routine menu includes poha, sprouts, bread and eggs for breakfast and dal, rice, vegetables and raita for lunch and dinner. Special meal consists of all these with a sweet and a non vegetarian dish. As the transit home is 4-5 minutes from the school, the children come home for lunch.
Now these children have become strong, mentally and physically. All of them have learnt personal hygiene and good eating habits. They are receiving schooling at the Deepalaya School at the campus. In addition to the academic training they are given opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities. Their absenteeism rates have also significantly dropped.
