Sponsor the monthly food and nutrition expenses for an orphan at our Ghar, INR 1800

Udayan Ghars are located in busy, urban neighbourhoods with children studying in good, English-medium schools. These Ghars were built with the aim of enabling children to re-integrate themselves and grow as responsible citizens.

The Basics

A well-researched mental health programme helps them overcome their initial trauma. The essence of the model is to recreate the warmth and security of a home and family for children who do not have biological families. This quality is significantly missing in typical institutional care homes for orphan children in India. Udayan Care accomplishes this goal by engaging civil society and working with a team of caring adults who contribute to each child's development, on multiple levels.

How It Works

• Support from individuals, professionals - lawyers, doctors, artists - and the corporate fraternity helps ensure children their right to a joyful, healthy childhood, so that they can tap their full potential.
• Each unit of Udayan Ghar has a band of volunteers - lifetime committed members - who ensure that the programme is run smoothly, within the policies and procedures laid down by Udayan Care Trust.
• All children in the homes follow a schedule that provides structure and regularity to their lives, while serving as a therapeutic intervention at the same time.
• In addition to the daily routines, like attending school, doing homework, participating in household chores etc., children in the Ghars regularly attend educational - recreational workshops.
• Conscious efforts are made so that all the children in the Ghars come together to participate in seasonal camps that offer sports, games, songs and create a sense of belonging through unity.
• The children enjoy celebrations of birthdays and holidays as well.

Raja’s story
Separated from his family at the young age of 6, Raja encountered severe hardships, fighting for his very survival. At times he would have to sing on the streets to earn his living.
Two years later, when Raja was just 8, he came to Udayan Ghar in Mayur Vihar. Like most children who lose their families at a young age, Raja had faced a lot of trauma and seemed lost and directionless. At first he was not even able to trust his Udayan family as for a long time no had had loved or cared for him without an ulterior motivate. Gradually, with a lot of counseling by mental health experts and sensitivity and compassion of his mentor parents, Raja understood that all his Udayan family wanted was his happiness and well being. The warm secure atmosphere and love of his Mentor Mothers and caregivers, filled Raja with a sense of comfort, he had long been denied.
As Raja had no previous schooling, home tuitions helped bridge the gap and Raja was soon admitted in one of Delhi’s best schools. Today, in Grade 6, though Raja may seem like any other 13 year old, he is talented beyond his years. Apart from being a brilliant actor and an enchanting dancer, he has always participated in every school competition. He has also won many gold medals at his school's annual sports event. Usually upbeat in high spirits, Raja gives his best to everything, his enthusiasm is often contagious.
