14-year-old Vignesh was the only son of his parents diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. 14-year-old Vignesh was the only son of his parents diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. Referred to Dean by Cancer Institute Adyar, the team found his left eye protruding with invasive Cancer and his left leg gangrenous and bleeding. His father said, "Hospitals and clinics refused to admit my son. We lost faith in humanity itself when Dean came into our lives."

Dean provided pain relief with oral morphine, eased his breathlessness and ensured good sleep with limited medication. Dressings were applied to the lesions and ulcers. Vignesh knew he was dying but was not afraid. He shared his poems and dreams with the staff of Dean. Counselling was provided to Vignesh and his family. Dean cared for him for a month till he died.

After his death, bereavement follow-up visits were done by Deans staff and volunteers. Since his parents were already preparing for their sons imminent death, it was much easier for them to accept the inevitable. Their deep spiritual leanings also helped in gaining a deeper perspective into the loss of their only child. Frequent visits and phone calls helped the parents stay centered.
