Help holistic development of children by sponsoring sports and cultural activities at our school for a year, INR 3400
 Mail

Each student at Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) has the ability to participate in sports and cultural activities. Cultural activities include nature hikes, attending classical Hindustani music shows, watching/participating in Kathak dance and Yoga. Unfortunately, students in class 10, 11, and 12 do not have the ability to learn dance, music, and yoga due to other school obligations. Each month, a play or dance is put on for the benefit of the parents. Although parents sit on the floor and refreshments are not given, there are still minimal costs for putting on the event. An annual school day is also hosted to foster a sense of community. PYDS feels that cultural identity is important in giving a child a long-term sense of stability and place. Children participate in off-campus cultural activities about 12 times a year, which have included the following places: Indian Military Academy, Forest Research Institute, Institute of Himalayan Geology, Survey of India, Oil and Natural Gas Museum, Wild Life Institute of India. Asan Barrage Wild Life Bird Sanctuary, Industrial Units, and Agricultural farms. Children also receive rewards for achievements to help encourage them, but these are often small books costing about Rs. 20 each. The PYDS group feels that these small tokens are essential to help foster each student. Fees per year per child: 1. Sports Teacher is Rs.338 2. Yoga teacher is Rs.200 3. Dance Kathak is Rs.800 Teachers are regular employees of the school and get a salary. The cost to the school for each teacher is over Rs. 2,00,000. Additional fees include the purchasing of musical instruments; this past year 126 children played instruments.

Culture and health for all PYDS Children
Sonali came to PYDS as a 9 year old. Her family is very poor and lives in a remote village. She is a quick and observant child with a great deal of potential, but has little understanding of her cultural heritage and the wider world. She has worked all her short life and is fit and strong, but has missed out on important lessons to be learnt from teamwork and sport.
Sonali has been taking part in all of our well-being programmes. She is a keen games and team sports player, even though she is little. She participates in all of the School Houses competitions through the year. She has yoga classes twice a week and dance and music classes several times each week. At first she was unsure, as she had never had the chance to be doing this, but now is learning fast.
Sonali has flourished under our arts curriculum. She dons her ankle bangles for the kathak and folk classes and loves the movement and grace. She feels connected to her history and is learning teamwork and sharing. She plays badminton and basketball, and is proud of her team and her team-mates.
