Daily 2 to 3 poor patients came to the Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi in a comatose state Daily 2 to 3 poor patients came to the Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi in a comatose state and are almost left for dead by family and friends who are no longer willing to care of them.There is also no place in Delhi to accommodate such patients who are homeless and who are in a state of comatose in a vegetative state but clinically fit for discharge.

SAPNA supports unknown/unattended patients by providing care, nutrition, clothes, etc. till discharge. It helps in establishing contact with relatives of some who come out of comatose. Some who are homeless are rehabilitated at Centres in Delhi or at the Old Age Home in Alwar. Some comatose patients in a vegetative state but clinically fit for discharge are also shifted to the home in Alwar. The social worker helps in giving daily bath, nourishment, massage and exercises if required, housekeeping, etc and assists the hospital staff. He also establishes contact with relatives and accompanies patients to their homes

SAPNA takes care of more than 400 unknown/unattended patients yearly. Majority of them have been restored to their family by establising contact. Quite a few homeless patients have been rehabilitated by establishing linkages with Rehabilitation Centers in Delhi or the Home in Alwar . Some comatose patients clinically fit for discharge are also accommodated at the Home in Alwar.
