Success Story

The pupils of Yendada Residential school for Visually Challenged

The pupils of Yendada Residential school for Visually Challenged, Visakhapatnam were trained in the abuse prevention and empowerment programme of Kidpower. The pupils trained include girl children with total visual challenges and girl children with partial vision. Being young and blind they are vulnerable to several forms of abuse. They also sometimes lack confidence to face certain situations.

The training given to the group really proved beneficial as its main components are how to prevent and stay safe in case of attacks, protect themselves from bad words, which help in building self awareness and self esteem. The girls are also taught some physical skills to keep themselves protected in times of trouble.
The children felt confident to learn these new skills and were highly enthusiastic & eager to learn. The skills really help in facing the daily life situations as they are more vulnerable to mental as well as physical abuse. They felt empowered and more safe and secure. One the child participant said that they have not attended any such training before and that they have learned how to be safe.
