Guddi Devi aged 28, lived in acute poverty in Kakanpar village, under Rukhai Panchayat of Nalanda District. she was unable to educate her children, feed or clothe them adequately, or even meet her family s day-to-day expenses. She worked as a birth attendant, using archaich methods. A training organised by GENVP supported by Give India in 2006 changed her life completely. Guddi Devi was one of the participants of GENVP training programme for Birth Attendants. She completed the course successfully. After training, she went back to her profession with renewed zeal and enthusiasm, and started using scientific and improved techniques in her vocation.

Her services were soon liked by families in the village and women started admiring her. Guddi Devi started getting more and more calls and her earnings improved substantially. She now not only leads a happy life, supporting her family, but has also been selected as ASHA worker under NRHM in Govt. PHC in Chandi block.
