Success Story

Kalakamma, from Obalabandi village in Koppal, is 27 years old and illiterate. Kalakamma, from Obalabandi village in Koppal, is 27 years old and illiterate. She and three other members of her family are hearing impaired. The family is poor and they were finding it difficult to manage their day to day living expenses.

With SAMUHA encouragement, Kalakamma joined the SHG of PWDs in her village and became a member also of the district level organization of PWDs. Samarthya helped Kalakamma get six months training in tailoring and gave her support to buy a sewing machine so she could work in her home and earn some income.

Today she has earned a name for her quality stitching and is even training two other women 3km away from her Oblabandi village who are not disabled, who are paying her for teaching them. With two sources of income, Kalakamma is able to contribute to her family income and her family is very proud of her achievements.
