Success Story

Most institutionalized children do not have the opportunity to taste the seasonal fruit-the mango, watermelon or even common orange. If at all they do, it is doled to them like everything else that they receive- always like alms! CSA have felt the need to give them some of the little pleasures of life.

CSA organize several functions round the year centering on the fruit of the season. On an identified day (if possible to synchronize with a festival), CSA assemble get together for children from across agencies/orphanages. It is a day of fun and frolic. They wash, clean, cut and distribute the fruit themselves. They enjoy themselves dancing, eating good food, and wearing clean clothes/shoes. It is also, the day when their teachers/orphanage staff mingles with them. With the fun activity, a creative session was organized; material was provided.

The most notable impact is that the children open up completely and have fun. No one is watching them or hauling them up for making mistakes. They feel wanted; they are a team- sharing the same fortunes, and they feel like normal kids! For those watching, the difference is visible and heartening.
