Success Story

8 years ago, Ruby joined Prabhat when she was 12 years old. 8 years ago, Ruby joined Prabhat when she was 12 years old. She belongs to a very poor family & suffers from Mental retardation and speech impairment. Ruby was unable to perform the basic daily chores independently and had to be fed by someone. She was inadequately clad and was therefore prone to fall ill especially in the winter months. This led to a further deterioration in her health and prevented her from benefiting from the education and training imparted to her. There was very little possibility of this sick and disabled girl being able to do any useful work in life.

Ruby was administered physiotherapy on regular basis. She was initially trained to perform the daily essential chores and eat her meals independently. We thereafter gave her some basic education and provided her with warm clothes (Salwar Kameez, pullover, undergarments socks and shoes) so that she does not fall ill frequently. When she gained some confidence and we noticed a perceptible improvement in her health we shifted her to the vocational training centre where she is learning to make non toxic Holi colours from flowers.

Ruby is a completely transformed person today. She has gained self confidence and shown considerable improvement in her health because she remains well covered in the warm clothing provided to her to ward off the cold during the winter months. Consequently she is able to take keen interest in learning the skills being taught to her. We feel that if she continues to respond positively to the continuous and painstaking nurturing and care given to her she will one day be able to earn her own living and stand on her own feet.
