Success Story

Society for Child Development runs a special school and a skill development centre in North Delhi. Society for Child Development runs a special school and a skill development centre in North Delhi for imparting special education and income-generating skill training to intellectually challenged children and youth from poor families. We soon realized that the lack of nutritious meals they eat at home causes weakness and fatigue. This makes them more susceptible to illness and irritability and aggravates the fallout of their disability. We felt it would be possible to alleviate this problem partially if appropriate diet nutrition was given to them.

In 2007 when the financial situation improved to some extent, we consulted a dietician and initiated a program to provide a nutritious mid day meal to all the students and trainees. The menu was worked out to ensure that a balanced meal which provides the essential nutrition is catered for.

After this program was started, we have noticed a perceptive improvement in the overall health and well being of the students and trainees. They display higher levels of enthusiasm, stamina and keenness to participate and learn. As a matter of fact, the midday meal gives the trainees, students and their parents added incentive for attending the school/training centre. The wholesome meal served to them provides the requisite nourishment required for better sustenance and energy and hence greater efficiency.
