Success Story

Nikki was diagnosed with Lung cancer. The lung tumor did not react to the treatment. Nikki was diagnosed with Lung cancer. The lung tumor did not react to the treatment. She had an adoring mother, Lalita. They looked liked sisters. Nikki was Lalita’s first born, her brother was with her grand parents. The mother and father were both in Delhi taking care of their daughter. Then local M.P, Mr George Fernandes, had given them a room in his house where they were well taken care of.

Nikki heard about the Day Care from other children and insisted on visiting us with her mother. They were days when she was very uncomfortable. She had a favorite chair where she would sit and participate in each craft activity that the children were doing. She also had intensive sessions with Zuleikha, a movement therapist and a regular visitor to CanSupport, to ease her fear and increase her feeling of well being.

Nikki needed palliative support and became a CanSupport home care patient in time. When she was unable to make the trip to the Day Care volunteers visited her to stay in touch. Her mother continued to visit the Day Care for the emotional support it gave her. We lost Nikki before she turned eighteen. She was a beautiful child who never lost her joy in life.
